Logitech PowerShell Controller + Battery Transforms Mobile Gaming

New Controller Turns Compatible Devices into Mobile Gaming Consoles; Roughly Doubles Battery Life

KUALA LUMPUR — Nov 22, 2013 — Logitech, a leading innovator of gaming peripherals, today introduced the Logitech PowerShell Controller + Battery – providing console-style game controls and increasing game play-time on your iPhone 5s, iPhone 5, or iPod touch (5th generation) running iOS 7.

To use this first-of-its-kind mobile gaming console, you simply insert your compatible iPhone or iPod touch into the controller as you would with a standard case. The analog off-screen controls of the Logitech PowerShell Controller + Battery deliver a gaming experience that’s familiar to console players everywhere, with a D-pad, shoulder triggers and face buttons that allow you to control game play.

As a result, you can use the entire screen for viewing the game, giving you a more immersive mobile gaming experience. And thanks to the controller’s comfortable shape, you can play for longer periods. The portable controller maintains a profile that fits easily in your pocket or small bag – putting intensive, complex games within your reach wherever you are.

“We designed this controller to deliver a true console-gaming experience on an iOS 7 mobile device,” said Prasenjit Sarkar, Regional Director for Southeast Asia at Logitech. “With gaming so pervasive on the mobile platform – our research shows that 87% of iPhone and iPod touch users play games on their device – it’s time to revolutionize the experience.”

With your iPhone or iPod touch in the controller, you’ll maintain full access to power on/off, volume, camera, speakers, headphone jack and charging. And your controller’s 1500 mAh battery increases the battery capacity of your iPhone 5s, iPhone 5 or fifth-generation iPod touch. Plus, you can recharge both batteries without removing the phone from the controller.

The controller is compatible with the iOS 7 game controller framework for which a long and rapidly growing list of popular games are supported, including Bastion, Fast & Furious 6: The Game, MetalStorm Aces, Galaxy On Fire 2™ HD and Nitro™ among others available from the App Store.

Pricing and Availability

Kaspersky Lab launches free app for secure web browsing on iPhone and iPad

PETALING JAYA, October 23, 2013 - Kaspersky Lab is pleased to announce the release of a new free app to ensure users are safe while surfing the web on their iPhone and iPad devices. The new Kaspersky Safe Browser for iOS is now available from the Apple App Store.

Like any Internet user, iPhone and iPad owners can fall victim to cyber attacks which use social engineering techniques. The most widespread example of this is phishing, which tricks users into providing their personal information through the use of fake websites or mass mailings that use the names and logos of well-known companies. The user could be tricked into sharing their passwords to a social networking site, email address, Apple ID account, and more.

The risks are even bigger for anyone who uses a mobile device for banking and financial transactions.

According to a recent B2B International survey, 38% of mobile device owners use their gadgets to perform financial transactions, while one in three users encountered phishing attacks that posed as ebanking services.

Kaspersky Safe Browser for iOS blocks links to phishing sites and other web-based resources that can be dangerous for users. The new application can also filter content according to selected user criteria. This way, users can automatically block pornographic sites, material containing violence or profanity, gaming sites, social networks, chats, forums and more. There are 17 pre-defined content filtering categories in total.

Kaspersky Safe Browser for iOS provides real-time protection from known and emerging threats thanks to data it receives from Kaspersky Security Network, which processes threat intelligence delivered by users of Kaspersky Lab security products from around the world. The new application is compatible with Apple devices running iOS 5 and higher.

Alexey Chikov, Product Manager at Kaspersky Lab, commented: “Quite a few users of Apple products believe their devices are immune to cyber attacks. This false sense of security makes it easier for cybercriminals to execute their plans. Kaspersky Safe Browser for iOS protects users from dangerous content whenever they go online.”

Kaspersky Lab has solutions which can protect all kinds of devices – from smartphones to servers.

This autumn the company released Kaspersky Internet Security - Multi-Device, a key solution for home users designed for all Internet-connected devices: Windows and Mac- based computers as well as Android-based smartphones and tablets. The release of Kaspersky Safe Browser for iOS brings iOS-based devices into this secure ecosystem.

Ovum comments: Apple won't crumble just yet

Following Apple’s announcement today, Ovum analysts have put together their initial reaction. Tony Cripps, Principal Analyst, Devices and Platforms, Telecoms at Ovum provides his view on the new releases:

“Even post-Jobs Apple still does great theatre, even if most of what was announced was unusually well-heralded in the blogosphere.

“Clearly there’s little need for gimmicks in the flagship 5S, in a launch replete with significant spec upgrades over and beyond the usual screen improvements. Apple, is certainly offering meaningful innovation here. Moving to a 64-bit architecture means Apple can genuinely claim to have brought something new to the smartphone party. It should certainly help the company further cement its lead as a mobile gaming platform and will give the Android fraternity something to think about in a space whose significance is sometimes downplayed beyond the gaming world.

“Ingratiating itself to the burgeoning community of health and fitness application developers with new sensors is also a good move by Apple at a time when consumer and professional interest in those categories are booming.

“Meanwhile the integrated capacitive fingerprint sensor will build legitimacy for the technology in mainstream consumer electronics, although privacy concerns are bound to raise their heads in these newly paranoid times.

“Anyone expecting Apple to come truly down market with the iPhone 5C was fooling themselves. The day that happens is the day the company signals that it has run out of headroom for expansion. It’s far from ready to concede that yet as it’s greater interest in Japan and China show, although the mooted tie up with China Mobile wasn’t announced as this comment was written.

“It does though indicate an acceptance that the consumers in the upper reaches of the smartphone mid-market are increasingly looking to distinctive devices of their own, and are not happy to accept cast offs or dumbed-down versions of former flagships.

“Colour variations and a clear design of its own is a good way to do this and clearly Apple isn’t too proud to follow its smartphone rivals in using this tactic. This change hasn’t affected Apple too much to date but would have represented a threat if the company hadn’t addressed the problem now – its once a year refresh can sometimes work against it.”

Microsoft announces Office Mobile for iPhone, 1mil Office 365 Home Premium subscribers in just over 100 days

New Office officially the best-selling Office edition yet, with more than one sold every second on average since it launched

KUALA LUMPUR, 17 June 2013 – Microsoft has released Office Mobile for iPhone available for free from the Apple App Store for Office 365 Home Premium and Office 365 ProPlus subscribers. Similar to its free Office Mobile that ships with every Windows Phone handset, the iPhone app enables great Office content viewing and on-the-go content editing capabilities.

After signing in to their Office 365 account, users can access, view and edit Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents from anywhere. And, they can count on Office Mobile to keep all content and formatting intact so documents still look great back on their PC or Mac.

Danny Ong, Chief Marketing and Operations Officer, Microsoft Malaysia.

“When we launched Office 365 earlier this year, we committed to delivering regular updates and new capabilities to Office 365 subscribers. Since then, we've expanded Skype calling and added new OneNote features. Office Mobile is another great example of the value of subscribing to Office 365,” said Danny Ong, Chief Marketing and Operations Officer, Microsoft Malaysia.

With Office Mobile for iPhone, users enjoy:
Consistent Office experience - Because Office Mobile is from Microsoft, formatting and layout remain intact when viewing, editing or adding comments, thanks to support for charts, animations, SmartArt graphics and shapes. When users return to their PC or Mac, documents look like it should.
Easy access - Office Mobile is designed for people on the move.  Users can quickly and easily access Office content in the cloud on SkyDrive or SkyDrive Pro. When users are on their iPhones, they’ll easily find the content they’ve viewed on their computer in the Recent Documents panel. And, of course, users can view and edit Office documents sent in email.
Office optimized for the small screen - Office Mobile has been optimized for the iPhone’s small screen so users can get important things done quickly. For instance, the Slide Navigator allows users to page through PowerPoint presentations fast while Speaker Notes help them practice presentations on the go. When reviewing Word documents on their iPhone, the Resume Reading feature takes users to the exact point in the document where they left off on their computer so they never miss a beat.
Sharing built in – Users can make quick edits and share documents right from their iPhone with Office Mobile. When working with others, users can review comments in Word and Excel documents on their phone and add their own. When they're done, users can save directly to SkyDrive or SkyDrive Pro or just send as an email attachment.

A video demonstrating the key features of Office Mobile for iPhone is available here: http://youtu.be/nDR150tAOkk. More information about the app is available on the Office Blog at http://aka.ms/Office365-iPhone.

Thanks a million: The best-selling Office edition to date
Microsoft makes this announcement on the back of another recent milestone, when it announced that the new Office suite had officially become the best-selling Office edition yet, with more than one sold every second on average since it launched.

On top of that, in just over 100 days, Office 365 Home Premium has attained more than 1 million subscribers, putting it on pace with some of the most popular services around.

“The numbers are only part of the story. At its core, Office exists to help people get things done, and people tell us they are choosing the service because it delivers full Office, it keeps them always up-to-date and it's a fantastic value.  What's truly exciting is how people are using the service and their newfound flexibility to do great things. From entrepreneurs who are realizing their dreams to families who are finding more time to connect. This is just our way of transforming the way people do things – whether in the way they study, the way they conduct business, or just become more productive on the whole,” said Ong.

A big differentiator of Office 365 Home Premium is its subscription service model, which comes with cloud-connected capabilities. It includes a one-license-for-the-entire-household model (up to five PCs or Macs and on mobile devices), 27 GB of cloud storage with SkyDrive (20 GB more than the perpetual license user), as well as 60 free Skype world calling minutes per month – so calls can be made to selected mobile, landline or PCs around the world. Users will also get ongoing product and services upgrades for as long as they are subscribed to the service. For Office 365 subscribers, this means new features and services stream to subscribers as soon as they’re ready, eliminating the hassles of upgrading and keeping subscribers always up-to-date.

Users Weighed Down by Multiple Gadgets and Mobile Devices, New Sophos Survey Reveals

Infographic highlights the most carried devices, and how different countries compare

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, March 20, 2013 – –Tech lovers can't bear to be apart from their gadgets, a new Sophos survey has revealed, with an average user carrying 2.9 devices.

Sophos conducted an online survey of more than 2,200 users worldwide, asking respondents how many devices they carry, and which operating systems they use. The eye-opening results are revealed in a new infographic at http://nakedsecurity.sophos.com/2013/03/14/devices-wozniak-infographic/ , published by Sophos.

The inspiration for the survey was the many devices of Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak. The largest number of devices carried by a respondent in the Sophos survey was twelve.

Devices by Country
Of the 2,226 respondents (the majority of whom represent Australia, Canada, Germany, US and UK), residents of Germany on average carry the most devices (3.1). They are also most likely to carry laptops, whereas Americans, Australians, the British, and Canadians are most likely to carry smartphones.

The average number of devices per person per country:
Germany:
3.1
US:
3.0
Canada:
2.7
UK:
2.7
Australia:
2.6

The Most Popular Device Types
The smartphone is by far the most popular device carried by survey respondents (85 percent), while the eReader is the least popular (29 percent).

Smartphone:
85 percent
Laptop:
68 percent
Tablet:
48 percent
MP3 player:
40 percent
eReader:
29 percent

The Most Popular Device Operating Systems
Google’s Android narrowly beats Apple’s iOS as the most popular smartphone OS carried. Here's the breakdown:
Android:
40.9 percent
iPhone:
40.5 percent
Blackberry:
8.9 percent
Windows:
3.4 percent

When it comes to laptops, Windows is the most popular laptop OS (49 percent), more than twice that of Mac (22 percent) and six times more than Linux (8 percent).

Tips for Keeping Devices Safe
Regardless of the number of devices one owns, protecting all of them is paramount. Here are three simple tips to ensure device security:

1. Love your phone? Lock it by enabling strong passcodes or passwords. One of the biggest barriers between a thief and a device’s data can be a password. Learn how passwords can be complex without being complicated, at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VYzguTdOmmU  And check out more on the SophosLabs YouTube channel, at http://www.youtube.com/sophoslabs

2. Keep all software updated, including security software. Install and regularly update security software. There are many out-of-date apps that can pose a security threat. Installing security applications can provide additional protection by encrypting sensitive data, help with retrieving lost or stolen devices and stop malware for little to no cost. Check out Sophos’ free security tools at http://www.sophos.com/en-us/products/free-tools.aspx

3. Only carry necessary devices. This seems like a simple concept, but with the myriad devices offering specific features and functionality, it's sometimes difficult to limit ourselves to just one or two.

“People are buying and using more and more devices, and are increasingly bringing them into the workplace. Inevitably, that trend increases the need to keep those devices safe and secure from threats,” said Graham Cluley, senior security consultant, Sophos. “In this age of BYOD, smart organizations are implementing security policies to ensure that both corporate and personal devices are protected and secured - keeping sensitive information out of the hands of hackers.”

Business owners and IT professionals concerned with securing employee devices should investigate mobile security products, such as those offered by vendors including Sophos. They can protect all of their users' devices, regardless of platform, quantity and location. For more information about Sophos’ mobile offerings, please visit: http://www.sophos.com/en-us/products/mobile.aspx.

Apple's iPhone Dethroned at the High-End in 2Q12 while Smartphones set to Surpass Feature Phones in Malaysia by 2014, says IDC

Kuala Lumpur, September 13, 2012 – According to IDC’s Asia/Pacific Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker, smartphones are set to represent 35% of the total mobile phone shipments in 2012, compared to 30% in 2011, and are forecasted to exceed 50% by 2014. IDC attributes the growth of smartphones in the nation to the increasing popularity of Android handsets and decreasing prices of entry-level smartphones.

Ryan Lai, Associate Market Analyst for Mobile Phone and Tablet research at IDC Asia/Pacific says, "In a segment previously dominated by Apple's iPhone, 2Q12 saw the iOS device dethroned as the king of high-end smartphones (more than RM1,500) for the first time since 2Q10 by Samsung’s Galaxy S III. The feat is even more significant considering that the Galaxy S III only arrived in the later part of 2Q12. However, Apple is set to rebound in the fourth quarter of 2012 when it releases its new iPhone in Malaysia."

HTC also experienced a breakout quarter in the smartphones segment, with its flagship model the One X placing third behind the iPhone. Overall, the high-end smartphone segment grew 33% in 2Q12 as compared to the same period last year and IDC expects the trend to continue into 2013.

Ryan adds, "We are witnessing a change in market dynamics. A growing number of Malaysian consumers now view Android smartphones to be as prestigious as the iPhone. Further growth in this segment will no longer be solely dependent on Apple, but will include Android vendors, mainly Samsung, HTC and Sony.”

Falling prices of entry-level smartphones are also eroding shipments of feature phones, particularly those priced above RM200. In the first half of 2012, 24% of smartphones shipments in Malaysia were priced below RM600, up from 14% in 2011. Ryan continues, "The main value proposition of a midrange feature phone is that you get smartphone-like features in a more affordable package. However, smartphone prices have fallen to such a point where many consumers themselves are asking why they would buy a smartphone-like device when with a little more money, they can get the real deal."

KUALA LUMPUR, 11 May 2012 – Goodyear, world’s leading tire brand, has launched its critically acclaimed smartphone app, the Goodyear Highway Helper for both iPhone and Android users – an application that provides access to real time information to all motorists. This is in response to the explosive growth of smartphone users in Asia who are using apps as a life-enhancement productivity tool for functions like driving – catering to Malaysians on the road.

The only application of its kind, the Goodyear Highway Helper app (“the App”) was developed to cater to the needs of drivers while on the road, making any road trip a hassle-free experience. Users of the new Android-capable version can build their road safety and vehicle maintenance knowledge through interactive quizzes and games, complete with social media functionality.

The App builds on the successful pilot version released for the iPhone and adds location-based functionality for a truly up-to-the-minute experience. With locally relevant information on weather conditions, the App also offers mapping functionality and lists of local emergency support numbers in the event of unexpected situations. Understanding auto care basic knowledge can help to conquer situations such as when the need to call for emergency services, identify reputable towing services, or change a tire arises.

The App is more than an emergency support. With the aim to empower everyday drivers, the App helps to improve travel planning and preparation with timely reminders, driving tips and immediate access to emergency phone numbers, car maintenance, troubleshooting guides and dealer search functions.Following the success of the app release on the Apple AppStore in 2009, this new version has been updated for the Android release. The latest edition of the application includes enhanced features such as tire health maintenance, daily road conditions and push tips for driving.

“The Highway Helper app provides users with essential vehicle maintenance information delivered through an engaging interactive interface. It is the most comprehensive app of its kind, incorporating real time information on road traffic and weather condition”, said Ivy Peng, Managing Director of Goodyear Malaysia.“With the rising number of global automotive application users, demand for such apps will transform the traditional driving experience.
