KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, August 2, 2012 – Samsung Malaysia Electronics Sdn. Bhd., the global leader in digital media and digital convergence technologies, announced the availability of the Angry Birds App for Samsung SMART TV. Developed by Rovio Entertainment, a Finnish entertainment media company, Angry Birds is one of the top smartphone apps, worldwide.
The game’s fun and colourful characters and engaging gameplay have made it hugely popular among fans around the world. Since its launch in November 2009, Angry Birds has been downloaded more than 1 billion times, across multiple platforms.

With Samsung’s Motion Control technology, for the first time, consumers can play Angry Birds on the large TV screen – enjoying a maximised, immersive and interactive gaming experience. With just the wave of the hand, fans can control gameplay features, including initiating the slingshot and activating the unique skills of each bird.

“Our dynamic partnership with Rovio has set a new standard in the industry, as Samsung SMART TV is the first television to offer the hugely popular game, which can be played and controlled by hand gestures. Samsung envisions the TV as the centre piece of the home, and will strive to develop more content to bring family members together,” said Kwon Jae Hoon, Managing Director, Samsung Malaysia Electronics.

The first SMART TV game was developed to work with Motion Control. Samsung has worked closely with Rovio over the past year to apply its advanced technology to the Angry Birds app for Samsung SMART TVs. Launching worldwide in July, the Angry Birds App for the Samsung SMART TV will be available on all Smart Interaction enabled models by updating the latest firmware.

Samsung plans to offer Video-on-Demand Angry Birds animations developed by Rovio after the official app launch. The animations will be available first on Samsung SMART TVs.

Samsung SMART TV 2012, which received the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2012 Innovations Design and Engineering Award, was officially launched in Malaysia on 19 April 2012, incorporating three life-enriching, highly-interactive solutions in the form of SMART Interaction, SMART Content and SMART Evolution.
