Red Hat Announces OpenStack - Powered Product Offerings to Deliver on Open Hybrid Cloud Vision

New solutions include extension to Red Hat Enterprise Linux product family and new offering to enable customers on their journey from datacenter virtualization to Infrastructure-as-a-Service

KUALA LUMPUR – June 19, 2013 – Red Hat, Inc. (NYSE: RHT), the world’s leading provider of open source solutions, today announced two new products offerings with one vision of delivering an Open Hybrid Cloud. The new offerings include Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform, a solution that serves as the foundation for advanced cloud users who are seeking to build an OpenStack-powered cloud, and Red Hat Cloud Infrastructure, a comprehensive offering designed to support organizations on their journey from traditional datacenter virtualization to OpenStack-powered clouds.

The new offerings are built on Red Hat’s enterprise-class open source solutions, backed by world-class Red Hat support, supported by a broad ecosystem of partners through the Red Hat OpenStack Cloud Infrastructure Partner Network, and and designed to make it easier for enterprises to adopt OpenStack.

Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform combines the power of Red Hat Enterprise Linux with the OpenStack cloud platform to deliver a scalable and secure foundation for building a private or public cloud. Red Hat Cloud Infrastructure enables organizations to implement an Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) solution that is suitable for traditional applications as well as emerging cloud-aware applications, with an open cloud management solution spanning them. With Red Hat Cloud Infrastructure, organizations can move to new cloud-aware application architecture on their own terms: at their own pace, with their own IT policies, and under their own control.

Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform
Designed to meet the needs of advanced cloud users, telecommunications companies, Internet service providers (ISPs), and public cloud hosting providers, Red Hat Enterprise OpenStack Platform integrates the world’s leading enterprise Linux and the industry’s fastest growing cloud infrastructure platform to give organizations the agility to scale and quickly meet customer demands without compromising on availability, security, and performance.

Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform is a single subscription offering that combines:
Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server, providing a secure and certified foundation for running the OpenStack workload servers (compute nodes, storage nodes, and controller nodes) as well as a scalable, high performance Linux operating system for guest virtual machines;
Red Hat OpenStack, providing a highly scalable, fault tolerant platform optimized for and integrated with Red Hat Enterprise Linux for the development of a managed private or public cloud for cloud-enabled workloads.

Using Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform allows advanced users to develop and deploy production OpenStack infrastructure and concentrate on adding value in the service layer, tooling and customizations they need on top of the Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform foundation, while trusting Red Hat to maintain the integrity of both the Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server and OpenStack code.

Additionally, Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform offers several enterprise-grade features to allow organizations to deploy with confidence, including testing and certification for each OpenStack release running on Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform for broad hardware and software compatibility and performance; a predictable, stable lifecycle; SELinux military-grade security; and a broad ecosystem of certified partners for compute, storage, networking, ISV software, and deployment and customization services.

Red Hat Cloud Infrastructure
Organizations, having already experienced the benefits of datacenter virtualization, are looking to benefit from higher level management functionality such as chargeback, self-service, advanced monitoring and metering, and orchestration provided by Red Hat CloudForms, which now incorporates the ManageIQ technology Red Hat acquired in Dec. 2012. At the same time, public cloud technologies like OpenStack offer the promise of lower infrastructure costs, highly scalable architectures, and IT-as-a-Service (ITaaS) models. Organizations are faced with the challenge associated with managing the long term shift from traditional datacenter virtualization to more cloud-enabled architectures as well as charting the course for moving their application workloads from one architecture to another, while maintaining manageability and policies across discrete platforms.

Red Hat Cloud Infrastructure is designed to address this need and enables organizations to build and manage a private cloud IaaS based upon datacenter virtualization and management technologies for traditional workloads, while providing an on-ramp to a highly scalable public-cloud-like infrastructure based on Red Hat OpenStack.

Red Hat Cloud Infrastructure is a single subscription offering that consists of four component technologies:
Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization: A comprehensive datacenter virtualization product for Linux and Windows workloads that enables users to build an agile, secure virtualization foundation with the features needed for traditional enterprise application workloads;
Red Hat CloudForms: An open hybrid cloud management solution that provides visibility and control over existing heterogeneous virtual infrastructures and lets users deploy, monitor, and manage cloud services across Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization, VMware vSphere, and other virtualization solutions, hypervisors, and platforms;
Red Hat OpenStack: A highly scalable IaaS solution that delivers an open, flexible, and enterprise-ready private cloud foundation built on the community OpenStack project integrated with and optimized for Red Hat Enterprise Linux; and
Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server, The world’s leading enterprise Linux, available as the scalable, high performance Linux operating system for guest virtual machines running on the OpenStack compute nodes.

Availability
Both Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform and Red Hat Cloud Infrastructure will be available in July 2013.

Partner Availability
Red Hat will be working with a small set of pilot solution provider and systems integration partners in select geographies, with plans to expand the number of partners and geographies over time with partners who can deliver a total solution with Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform and Red Hat Cloud Infrastructure.

New Red Hat OpenStack Administration Training
As part of today’s announcement on Red Hat’s enterprise-class OpenStack solutions, Red Hat today announced a new training offering, Red Hat OpenStack Administration. This course teaches system administrators how to implement a cloud-computing environment using Red Hat OpenStack technology, including installation, configuration, and maintenance of Red Hat OpenStack on the Red Hat Enterprise Linux platform. Through hands-on labs, students will explore fault-tolerant and redundant configurations of Red Hat OpenStack, as well as a tech preview of future releases of Red Hat OpenStack.

New Red Hat Cloud Certifications
Red Hat already offers training for system administrators, developers, and system integrators to operate in Red Hat’s open hybrid cloud environments. Today, Red Hat also announced two new credentials with a cloud focus. The Red Hat Certificate of Expertise in OpenStack IaaS demonstrates an individual is capable of using Red Hat OpenStack to implement and manage a private cloud infrastructure. The Red Hat Certificate of Expertise in Hybrid Cloud Storage demonstrates an individual’s knowledge and skills in using Red Hat Storage Server to create flexible storage infrastructures suitable for on-premise, hybrid and public clouds. Both certificates are earned by passing hands-on, practical exams. The Red Hat Certificate in OpenStack IaaS is expected to be available in Aug. 2013. The Red Hat Certificate of Expertise in Hybrid Cloud Storage is available immediately.

New Open IaaS Architecture Service
In addition to training and certification offerings in support of Red Hat Cloud Infrastructure, Red Hat is also announcing a new Open IaaS Architecture Service to help organizations get the right start building and operating cloud IaaS. Offered through Red Hat Consulting, the Open IaaS Architecture Service provides a comprehensive start for IaaS capabilities and can help users better understand use cases, review design requirements, and identify needed resources. The Open IaaS Architecture Service enables organizations to build a flexible architecture that addresses immediate operational needs, future integration opportunities, and evolving cloud adoption. The service reduces risk and uncertainty from IaaS deployments and tailors an IaaS solution to optimize efficiency, agility, and reliability.
