Partnership to provide KDU with a solid platform towards greater industry-academia collaboration for overall student development and making them highly employable

Kuala Lumpur, 17 September 2013. The KDU University College (KDU UC) and Maxis Berhad (Maxis), Malaysia’s only integrated communications service provider, today inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that will see the two parties collaborate to benefit students through connectivity, entrepreneurship programmes as well as internship opportunities. The collaboration will also enable KDU UC students to be connected 24 hours a day via Maxis’ WiFi services as well as take advantage of Maxis’ full suite of integrated solutions.

Through this partnership, students will now have the opportunity to enroll in the Maxis Entrepreneurship Programme, which aims to instill the spirit of entrepreneurship and provide students the necessary knowledge and skills to run a small business of their own. Here, students will be required to setup and operate a small authorised agent for Maxis. They will then be evaluated based on their ideas and creativity, business plans and ability to achieve revenues for the business.

Maxis has also installed Hotspots that provide high speed WiFi of up to 50Mbps at the KDU UC’s cafeteria and student study areas, enabling students to enjoy WiFi services while on campus. In addition, Maxis will set up a Service Counter on campus for students to purchase any Maxis or Hotlink products or services.

In his speech during the signing ceremony, Professor Khong Yoon Loong, Vice-Chancellor of KDU UC said, “We are already embarking on a journey towards being a full-fledged university and preparing for our move into the new RM300 million campus in early 2014. This partnership shall further provide us with a solid platform and keep us firmly on target towards greater industry-academia collaboration that assists in providing overall development for our students and making them highly employable.”

Tan Lay Han, Maxis’ Head of Sales and Services, said, “At Maxis, we are committed to enriching the lives of all Malaysians, and with education being one of our focus areas, access to communications and advanced technology on campus can play a vital role in driving excellence. Through this strategic partnership with KDU UC, we look forward to offering the student community a more enriching academic experience by providing them opportunities to hone and develop their business skills, as well as  interact in a more connected world by taking advantage of our full range of integrated solutions.”

The partnership will also enable students at KDU UC to benefit from easier access to the institution’s conference learning facilities through Maxis’ integrated services combining fixed, mobile and wireless solutions that includes customised application and service development as well as the latest and broadest array of devices.

Apart from technology and entrepreneurship, Maxis is providing students internship opportunities within Maxis, in order to assist them to gain the much needed practical experience.

KDU UC is part of the Maxis Integrated Partner in Education (MIPE), a programme that aims to provide a fully integrated communications suite of solutions for tertiary institutions and their populations. The programme, which was launched in April 2011, is designed to enhance campus communications through a wide range of products and services that will provide campus communities with an enriching education experience.
