Super-slim Seagate Hard Disk Drive Provides Haier Tablet with 500GB of Storage and the Performance of a Flash Device

MALAYSIA — Jan. 20, 2014 — Seagate Technology plc, a worldwide leader in storage solutions, today announced that its Seagate Ultra Mobile HDD will be utilized in the latest generation of Haier Computer’s 13-inch Tablet/PC — the Sailing P13A. The company also disclosed that Haier Computer has selected Seagate hard disk drives (HDD) to be the standard in all of its PC products.

“Seagate has an ongoing strategic alliance with Haier and is committed to jointly delivering industry-leading PC products that consumers desire— and the Sailing P13A does just that, said Sandy Sun, Seagate’s vice president and general manager for China. “Outfitted with the Seagate Ultra Mobile HDD, the P13A enables Haier to comfortably integrate high-capacity storage into its Tablet/PC enabling users to enjoy their content in a tablet form factor at home, on-the-go, wherever.”
Delivering the similar power, performance and reliability of a flash device, when integrated into a tablet the Seagate Ultra Mobile HDD provides up to 7x the storage capacity of a traditional 64GB tablet. It features up to 500GB of capacity delivering the highest capacity available in a small, ultra-thin form factor while supporting over 100,000 photos, 125,000 songs or 62 hours of high-definition video and movies.

“Our relationship with Seagate extends over ten years, a partnership that has enabled us to deliver some of the most dynamic, cutting-edge products in the industry as well as fuel growth in China for both companies,” said Zhou Zhaolin, general manager of Haier Computer. “A truly ground-breaking product, the Sail P13A delivers high-capacity storage in one of the thinnest, lightest Tablet/ PC form factors available on the market today and is a perfect example of our strategic alliance.”

Incorporated power modes support the drive in sleep, standby and idle enabling it to consume as low as 0.14W and support the long battery life demanded by tablets.

Leveraging the company’s experience with ultra-portable applications like iPods, MP3 players, and handheld video recorders, the newly-engineered Seagate 2.5-inch Ultra Mobile HDD is just 5mm thin while weighing in at a mere 3.3oz— about the same as a light bulb. Its slim, rugged design allows it to be utilized in new emerging applications like convertible and detachable storage.

HAIER TO INCREASE FOCUS AND ADDRESS DEMAND FOR HIGH-END AND MID-RANGE PRODUCTS IN NEW DUAL-BRAND STRATEGY.

Sanyo acquisition to help company strengthen position in Malaysia and other regional markets.

KUALA LUMPUR, 17 May 2012 – Haier Electrical Appliances (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (Haier) recently announced it will be positioning itself in the high-end and mid-range home appliance market for Malaysia and parts of Southeast Asia through a new dual-brand strategy.

Following Haier’s recent acquisition of Sanyo Sales & Services (M) Sdn Bhd’s (Sanyo) home appliance business in Malaysia, as well as other similar acquisitions in Vietnam, Indonesia, Philippines and Japan, this dual-brand strategy will see Haier, the world’s No.1 major appliances brand, continue to use the Haier brand simultaneously with the Sanyo brand in Malaysia. This dual-brand strategy will be emulated across Vietnam, Indonesia and the Philippines.“Following the acquisition, Sanyo will transfer all its operations as well as customer care and after-sales service facilities in each of the markets to Haier. This will help us considerably strengthen both brands in all segments within these countries,” said Mr. Du Jingguo, vice-president of Haier Group.

Haier’s new strategy and direction for Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia and the Philippines will be spearheaded by a new entity called Haier Asia International (HAI) whose Asia headquarters is in Japan.

The decision to acquire Sanyo in these markets was a strategic move that took into account the strengths of both parties.

“This acquisition does not simply bring together the resources from Haier and Sanyo but one where we can create a synergy by combining the research and development (R&D) efforts and market resources of both companies. It allows Haier to augment our R&D capabilities and build upon Sanyo’s manufacturing bases across Japan and Southeast Asia to better serve the needs of local consumers,” Mr. Du continued.

“Moving forward, we will continue to serve all the market segments as we have been doing all this while but now we have additional resources to step up our focus on the high-end and mid-range market,” Mr. Du, who is also president of HAI, added.

According to Mr. Atsushi Jinguji, managing director of Haier Malaysia, this increasing demand for high-end and mid-range products in Malaysia is fueled by the country’s stable GDP growth combined with a growing middle class with rising disposable income.

“There is a demand for high-end and mid-range home appliances in Malaysia and we are positioning ourselves to meet these demands,” Mr. Jinguji said.

Haier will increase its efforts in R&D to create new high-end and mid-range products for markets like Malaysia through the setting up of two new R&D centers in Tokyo and Kyoto, Japan.

"Sanyo Electric has already earned a strong reputation for its R&D, product line and marketing network in Japan and Southeast Asia. Our dual-brand strategy was designed to leverage Sanyo Electric's competitive advantages while enhancing the new markets' offerings through Haier's strengths in innovation, quality, design and product reliability. We will bring more high-quality choices to consumers in these markets to enrich their lives," said Mr. Du.

"As the global No.1 major appliances brand, Haier's goal is to be among the top three brands in these markets. The Sanyo Electric acquisition will help us achieve this goal faster," added Mr. Du.

New Haier 3D LED TV for Malaysian market

Haier Malaysia has announced the availability of its latest 3D LED TVs for the Malaysian market – the LE55H330 and LE46H330. These TVs come with Active Shutter 3D technology and are capable of converting 2D video and images to 3D. Other features include SRS TruSurround XT and energy-saving, eco-friendly technologies.

LED Backlight Technology
LED backlight technology is a major improvement over CCFL (Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp) backlight technology. With LED backlight technology, TVs can be built as slim as photo frames. Color display and contrast are also enhanced at the same time resulting in much improved picture quality. LED backlight technology is capable of delivering a color gamut of 105% to NTSC Standards, solving the problem of the low 72% NTSC color gamut which is frequently cited as a major weakness of CCFL LCD displays.

2D to 3D Conversion
Converting 2D video and images to 3D is as easy as pushing the “3D” button on the remote and wearing the 3D glasses.

Super Slim Design
Haier LED Backlight TVs have an ultra slim cabinet design which measures 0.3cm deep across the front bezel edge of the TV, and about 3cm at the thickest part of the television. Haier LED TVs have a rounded front with a smooth finish thus giving them a very attractive sleek and slim look, like a piece of art hanging on your wall.

ECO Friendly
ENERGY Saving, Standby ≤ 0.6W
With recent LED panel technological breakthroughs, Haier’s latest TVs are now able to achieve exceptional picture quality while improving energy efficiency. The design of the TV’s circuit has been improved and they now consume less power while in standby mode.

Intelligent Mode
Infrared sensor technology measures body temperature to detect when you leave the room. It then automatically switches off the TV to save electricity and switches it back on when you come back into the room.

OPC
OPC (Optimal Power Control) adjusts the backlight to save energy. When switched on, this saves energy by 30-70%.

Picture Quality Enhancement

MEMC
Motion judder and motion blur are a common problem with moving pictures. Haier’s Motion Estimation technology can calculate one intermediate image and its Motion Compensation technology adds the image between the two original moving images to smoothen transition and make for better viewing.

240Hz/120Hz Full Motion
By increasing the field frequency from 60Hz to 120Hz, the fluidity of moving visuals is improved. 240HZ technology reproduces crisp and detailed images closer to that of a real moving image perceived by the human eye. The frame rate of conventional LCD TVs is quadrupled by interpolating detail in fast motion scenes in movies, sports programs and video games.

H.264(Mpeg 4)
H.264(MPEG-4) provides more smooth and uninterrupted HD pictures display. The most advanced compression technique enhance the transmission and video-decode,thus the TV supports more HD content decode formats easily.

SRS TruSurround XT
SRS TruSurround XT is the second generation of SRS TruSurround. Building upon its patented predecessor, TruSurround XT solves the problem of playing 5.1 or 6.1 multichannel content over two speakers (or headphones). It accepts input from up to a seven channel (6.1) audio source and processes it into a two-channel output. When receiving multichannel content, TruSurround XT virtualizes the channels, creating “virtual speakers” that appear to extend all around the listener.

Eye Guard
Haier’s patented Eye Guard technology features light-sensors that automatically adjust the TV’s backlight to reduce glare and provide a more comfortable viewing experience.

Leading Chinese PC Company and NComputing Partner to Bring sub-$150 Computing to Governments and Educational Institutions

Haier and NComputing focus on bridging the digital divide in Africa, Latin America and Asia

June 11, 2009 – NComputing, the world’s leading provider of ultra low-cost computing, has formed a strategic partnership with Haier Computer Group to jointly pursue large educational and government computing opportunities. Haier Computers is one of China’s largest PC companies and is a division of the $18 billion Haier Group. (HKEx: 1169). It has embarked on an ambitious plan to grow its global PC and IT services business. The two companies are pursuing opportunities to provide large-scale computing access to governments in Africa, Latin America, Europe, and Asia. NComputing and Haier have already won the world’s first nationwide “one-computer-per-child” program in the Republic of Macedonia. The two companies helped the Macedonian government install over 180,000 computing seats throughout its school system for under $150 per seat including all hardware, software, and network infrastructure.

The NComputing virtual desktop solution is based on a simple fact: today’s PCs are so powerful that the vast majority of applications only use a small fraction of the computer’s capacity. NComputing virtual desktops allow many users to share the unused capacity while providing full PC experience. NComputing devices use just 1 watt of electricity, reducing energy costs and making NComputing the greenest computing solution on Earth. It is the ideal solution for sustainable, energy-efficient computing where access to power is too expensive, unpredictable, or non-existent. The NComputing solution supports Linux and Windows platforms. The Macedonian government chose Ubuntu Linux for its “one-computer-per-child” program. By combining NComputing virtual desktops with Haier’s scale and price advantage on monitor and host PCs, the joint solution can be offered for 60-75 percent less than traditional desktop PCs or thin clients.

“NComputing’s mission is to bring computing to the next billion people around the world who are ready, but simply cannot afford it with traditional computers,” said Stephen Dukker, chairman and CEO of NComputing. “NComputing virtual desktops have broken the cost barrier and by partnering with Haier, we will be able to bring the technology to millions of students and citizens around the world.”

The two companies will initially target 18 countries in Africa, Europe, Asia, and Latin America that have large-scale computerization projects in schools and government offices and address over 1.5 million workstations. Over time, the companies expect to broaden the partnership to other countries. NComputing already has a significant presence in Africa with nearly 30 nations having deployed or piloted the solution. “NComputing is one of a few computer technology companies making a real commitment to bringing affordable, economically sustainable computing solutions to Africa and other developing regions,” said Brooke Partridge, CEO of Vital Wave Consulting, a strategy consulting firm focused on technology business in emerging markets. “Our research has shown most low-cost computing devices are being marketed primarily to mature markets. Its partnership with Haier demonstrates NComputing’s resistance to that change by focusing on these under-served markets. The Haier-NComputing partnership has the potential to positively impact the lives and careers of millions of children in the developing world.”

“Government leaders in emerging market nations recognize that computer skills are critical if they want their citizens and workers to prosper in the 21st century economy,” said Mr. Gao Yi-cheng, General Manager, Haier Computers. “By combining our cost advantage in PCs and monitors with NComputing award-winning virtual desktops, we will be able to offer governments an extremely cost-effective and sustainable solution that is unmatchable.”

Since introducing its award-winning virtual desktop technology two years ago, NComputing has emerged as the market leader with over 40,000 customers and millions of people using their virtual desktops in over 140 countries. NComputing won the Wall Street Journal Technology Innovation award, the Gartner Cool Vendor Award, the Frost and Sullivan Green Computing award, as well as numerous awards from CES, Deloitte, the Tech Museum of Innovation, CeBit, and Infocomm. It was recently selected as the best desktop computing solution for computer labs by Computer Aid International.
