JARING SECURES RM14.25M CONTRACT FROM UPSI

KUALA LUMPUR, OCTOBER 23, 2012 – JARING Communications Sdn Bhd (JARING), the nation’s premier Internet Service Provider, signs a five-year contract recently, worth RM14.25 million, with Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) to upgrade the university’s communications infrastructure.

The internet access at UPSI, from the current 155Mbps will be upgraded to 1Gbps thus equipping the university with the fastest internet connection and making it a benchmark for other universities in terms of JARING Secured Infrastructure.

Via this agreement, UPSI will be able to maximise a wide range of communications services provided by JARING such as the My015 IP Telephony, Data Recovery Centre, WiFi at students’ residence and Cloud Computing services which now hosts the university’s e-learning platform.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Datuk Dr Md Khir bin Abdul Rahman, Chairman / Acting CEO of JARING said that the latest agreement was a testimony of how JARING would be able to deploy its expertise and know-how to help develop the IT infrastructure of its customers.

“Our partnership with UPSI was established in as early as 1998 when JARING was given the contract to provide a 2Mbps LL internet access to the university and this was followed by additional tasks to upgrade the access capacity.

“We are honoured to be able to fulfill the vision of the university which had planned its IT infrastructure systematically to meet the current and future IT demands.  As a result of this, UPSI is currently well-connected via the Net and its 25,000 population is able to operate in a full and efficient IT environment,” added Datuk Dr Md Khir.    

Currently, UPSI has two main campuses namely the Sultan Abdul Jalil Shah campus in Tanjung Malim and the Sultan Azlan Shah campus located in Proton City which is approximately 5km away from the former campus.

The communications technology offered by JARING is expected to encourage more VOIP interactions between the two campuses due to its lower subscription as compared to the market rate.

“In addition, in line with the current levels of technology, JARING is also providing UPSI with a comprehensive WiFi coverage which now allows mobility of usage campus-wide through various mobility tools such as smart phones, tablets, pads and notebooks.

“The WiFi services were implemented since 2006 and is now being gradually enhanced to allow more access points and to encourage internet-based learning.

“A new contract for another 15 years has been awarded to ensure the improvement of the WiFi coverage,” said Datuk Dr Md Khir.

Taking advantage of JARING’s Cloud Computing Carrier Class Services, which is now being fully operational, UPSI has moved ahead to implement its e-learning platform via the JARING’s Cloud.

“We are pleased as UPSI is also ready for any eventuality and ensure that all service applications run smoothly all the time through the Data Recovery Centre (DRC) services supplied by JARING since 2006 and has been enhanced further in 2010.

“At the same time, for institutions that have a fully ICT culture such as UPSI, network and content security factor are the main essence of all ICT projects.  The ability to determine the level of 'health' network, traffic visibility, ability to make tuning and capacity planning is very important.  Users will feel safe because all JARING network is continuously monitored from security threats including DDOS attacks, viruses, phishing, and hacking activities,” said Datuk Dr Md Khir.

Datuk Dr Md Khir signed on behalf of JARING while UPSI was represented by its Vice Chancellor, Professor Datuk Dr Zakaria bin Kasa.

Winners of the recently concluded ‘National Educational Blogging Competition 2012’, organised by UPSI, were also present during the event to receive their prizes from Professor Datuk Dr Zakaria bin Kasa.

(吉隆坡23日讯)  全马首屈一指的网络服务供应商JARING 通讯今日与苏丹依德利斯师范 (UPSI) 签署期5年总值 1425万令吉的合约，以提升该校互联网通讯设施。

随着这项互联网设施的提升， UPSI校园将享有最快的网速，从原本的155Mbps提升至1Gbps。

透过这项合约，UPSI 将能够享有JARING提供的各项服务，例如My015 IP 电话、数据中心, 宿舍无线网络服务和以及支撑该大学E-学习平台的云端服务。

JARING OneCloud Attains VMware vCloud Powered Validation in Malaysia

JARING DELIVERS MALAYSIA ’S FIRST RFID-ENABLED LIBRARY

PENANG, March 23: JARING Communications has delivered the country’s first EPC Global Gen2 compliant radio-frequency identification (RFID) public library facility in the Penang Public Library Corporation (Library).

The RFID system is implemented for the main library, and four libraries on the island and the mainland. The project covers the RFID tagging of 200,000 books and 8,000 other media.

The RFID system will enable the Library to conduct their operations in a more seamless and efficient manner compared to the current system using bar code. It also enables the Library to have real-time visibility over the availability, and physical location of the book or books needed.

The initiative comes under the purview of the Penang and Kulim Pilot Broadband Project, a pilot programme under Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC). It is implemented by Smartag Solutions.

“At Penang Public Library Corporation, this first real-time automatic asset tracking solution can find any book down to the rack where it is located,” added Dr Mohamed bin Awang Lah, chief executive officer of JARING Communications Sdn Bhd at the launch ceremony held today.

“The new RFID application will completely replace the libraries' current tracking system, which is based on bar codes. This new system will eventually serve more than one purpose, enabling the library to automate such circulation management functions such as checkout and return, sorting and inventory.”

In addition to equipping libraries with RFID technology, JARING plans to introduce the new RFID automation system to the public sector, especially in education and government ministries, along with the manufacturing, financial services and healthcare sectors.

“The Malaysian market has been slowly adopting RFID technology and demand will increase by 2010 before strengthening on an annual basis,” he said.

“RFID growth will be boosted by a growing understanding of this technology's potential, helped by the eventual recovery of the current economic downturn, at which time end-users will become more optimistic in proceeding with their RFID initiatives.”

IDC, the technology consultancy, stated that RFID spending in Malaysia is estimated to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 45.84% to almost US$20.94 million (RM77 million) in 2010 from US$2.45 million (RM9 million) in 2005.

According to Shukriah Yon, Director of Penang Public Library Corporation, this new technology will offer the people of Penang an excellent level of library service.

"Through the deployment of this RFID system, we have realized our vision of a fully-automated library where patrons can borrow and return books and other media entirely on their own”.

Smartag Solutions developed Smartware and implements the RFID book tagging which efficiently integrates with the library current system.“Every piece of library material which is tagged, enables patrons to self-checkout and return materials quickly and efficiently. For example, a book which has been borrowed here, can then be dropped off into an RFID box on Penang Island at any time even after office hours.”

“In addition, it will help librarians control the flow of library materials. It also frees up librarians from routine check-in / out duties so they can concentrate on assisting patrons in the library,” she added.

The implementation of the RFID system in Penang Public Library Corporation has begun in December 2008 and was completed in February 2009.

In conjunction with the launch, JARING Communications and Penang State Public Library also hosted a seminar on the new RFID Library system, titled “Role of Libraries, Broadband and RFID within our Community”.

MDV hosts 3rd Business & Technology Speakers’ Series

Themed ‘Broadband – Delivering Convergence, Enabling Society’

13 November 2008 KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Debt Ventures Berhad (MDV), a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Minister of Finance Inc, hosted the third Business & Technology Speakers’ Series (B&T Speakers’ Series) themed ‘Broadband - Delivering Convergence, Enabling Society’ on the 11 November 2008. The B&T Speakers’ Series is MDV’s innovation to create a platform for industry leaders and players to network as well as exchange ideas and insights, thus fulfilling MDV’s role as a development facilitator for Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

Mr Nitin Bhat, Senior Vice President for ICT Group, Asia Pacific, Frost and Sullivan gave the outlook and perspectives in broadband penetration in Malaysia, which stood at 15 per cent for first quarter 2008. He also highlighted the Government’s aim to increase broadband penetration by 50 per cent by year 2010.
