I-Berhad Launches iO2 Systems

i-City, Shah Alam - Tuesday, 16 June 2009 - I-Berhad, the developer of the unique
i-City project, is looking to offer its digital technology solutions to other developments in Malaysia and the region.

Its chairman Y.Bhg. Tan Sri Dato’ Hamad Kama Piah Che Othman said this will provide the company with a technology-based income.

“Thus, when this roll-out is fully operational, I-Berhad will have another revenue stream to complement the one from property development,” he said in his speech at the launch of the iO2 Systems by Housing & Local Government Minister Y.B. Dato’ Seri Kong Cho Ha today.

Tan Sri Dato’ Hamad said that when i-City first embarked on the i-City project four years ago, it was with a view that the project would be a test bed for the various digital solutions being developed. ‘We are proud that today we have proven the concept that a developer can use digital technology to create value for its shareholders.’

He said that when a tenant relocates to i-City, the tenant would be offered a range of built-in facilities and services that will enable him to lower his operational costs.

I-Berhad has teamed up with well-known companies such as Cisco and Servcorp who have a track record in managing these facilities and services cost effectively.

I-Berhad has teamed up with Servcorp of Australia to set up a joint-venture called i-Office2 Sdn Bhd to provide managed services to i-City and other property projects in the country.

The joint-venture will deploy an IP based open network platform in i-City that allow building technologies such as heating ventilation and air conditioning, lighting control, Closed Circuit Television CCTV Cameras , door access control and fire-alarm systems to be integrated with traditional IP-based communication systems such as e-mail, messaging, voice and productivity services on a common network platform.

The IP based network platform is based on CISCO’s Connected Real Estate CCRE system involving building a converged IP network into the underlying infrastructure of every building (similar to common utilities such as power or water) to provide a common platform in the delivery of connectivity services.

Meanwhile, Dato’ Seri Kong in his speech said the Malaysian economy was being transformed into a digital as well as a service oriented economy. It was therefore not surprising to see digital technology being integrated into property development.

‘In this context, I would like to congratulate i-City for taking an innovative approach to boost the local property development industry to the next level, he said.

i-City is the first development in the country where broadband connectivity is considered another utility. To ensure there is no disruption, there is also a back-up broadband.

Dato’ Seri Kong later also presented a certificate of recognition from his Ministry to i-City in recognition of it being a unique and innovative property development in the country.

Facts on i-City
i-City is a 72-acre RM2.0 billion ICT-based commercial development in Section 7, Shah Alam.
It is designed to be, amongst others, an investment location for global knowledge-based companies and when completed will provide jobs for 50,000 knpwledge workers.

i-City has been awarded MSC Malaysia Cybercentre status by the government and has also been recognised as a tourist destination by Tourism Malaysia.

In Oct last year, i-City was awarded International Park status by the Selangor government which meant it would be able to operate entertainment and lifestyle outlets such as cinema and theatres, bowling alleys, family theme parks, restaurants and outdoor activities.

Malaysia’s Largest Data Centre In One Location

i-City, Shah Alam - Thursday, 9 April 2009 : The Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Y.B. Datuk Dr Maximus Johnity Ongkili today launched the Data Centre Park in i-City, making it one of the largest data centre space providers in a single location in Malaysia.

The Data Centre Park is specially designed for data centre service providers and large organizations planning to build their own data centre buildings. It comprises of 4 buildings with a combined data centre floor space of 200,000 sq ft.

i-City’s Data Centre Park with its dual power sources, carrier-neutral telecommunication accessibility and high load capacity provides a compelling alternative for businesses to build their data centres in i-City. the Data Centre Park will also offer other shared facilities such as secondary power sources, cooling, fire fighting facilities and perimeter securities. Y.B. Datuk Dr. Maximus Johnity Ongkili, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation said that i-City is an important milestone for the MSC programme as it is the first private sector purpose-built cybercentre in Malaysia. “We are encouraged by this private initiative as many of the facilities and services in i-City surpassed the qualifying criteria set up by Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC). In fact, we are looking at how i-City can be the benchmark for future cybercentres in the country.”

According to the Minister, the Data Centre Park is yet another example of how i-City consistently plays an important role in the government’s agenda to move Malaysia up the information, communication and technology (ICT) value chain. Data Centres represent one of the fastest growing segments in the Malaysia ICT industry and the government also recognizes that data centre is a key economic driver, with large impact on the ICT and knowledge sectors.

The Minister added that while today the country is facing a challenging economic landscape brought about by the global financial crisis, ICT can provide a competitive edge for companies. I-City is a good example as its technology infrastructure and office services will enable companies operating in i-City to be able to lower their cost of operations by 33 %.

Meanwhile I-Berhad will be paying a final dividend of 5% less applicable tax for the year ended 31 December 2008 on 15 May 2009. The entitlement date for the said dividend shall be 27 April 2009.

From the financial perspective, I-Berhad achieved record (pre-tax) profits of RM16 million in 2008. The Group is still financially strong with more than RM120m cash and zero borrowings.

Malaysia's i-City Built on Cisco Connected Real Estate Infrastructure by Datacraft
