MIMOS APPOINTS CHIEF SCIENTIST
Kuala Lumpur, 24 July 2007 – MIMOS announced the appointment of Professor Dr Valentinas Snitka to the newly-created position of Chief Scientist with effect from yesterday.
Professor Dr Snitka brings with him more than 20 years of unparalleled technology insight, experience and expertise in the field of nanotechnology. Prior to joining MIMOS, he was the Director of Microsystems & Nanotechnology Research Centre at Kaunas University of Technology, Lithuania.
Reporting to MIMOS President & Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Abdul Wahab Abdullah, Professor Dr Snitka is tasked to lead MIMOS Micro-Nano Technology Cluster.
“The appointment of Snitka as Chief Scientist is a further demonstration of MIMOS’ commitment to continue building momentum, as we move towards becoming the premier applied research centre in frontier technologies, and strengthening our world-class research team with world-class talent,” said Dato’ Abdul Wahab.
Professor Dr. Valentinas, who holds 28 patents for various inventions, was actively involved in the European Union and United States Science Academy as adviser on Nanotechnology.
He served as a member of numerous scientific and nano technology committees including international programme committee for international conferences on micro-nano engineering in Vienna, Barcelona and Copenhagen; European Union Scientific and Technical Research committee; and European Union Framework six nanoscience and nanotechnology, materials and processes committee.
Professor Dr. Valentinas started his career in 1970 as a researcher at the Russian Defense Ministry based in Moscow.
He holds Doctor of Sciences from Moscow Institute of Electronics Technology; a PhD in Microelectronics Technology from Kaunas Politechnical Institute; and a diploma of engineering in electronics from Kaunas Politechnical Institute.
