Lenovo尋求2008奧運會火炬馬來西亞持跑者

Lenovo Announces Search for Olympic Torchbearers in Malaysia August 23, 2007 – Today Lenovo, a global leader in the PC market, announced it will be holding open nominations to select Malaysia’s most innovative thinkers to participate in the Beijing 2008 Olympic Torch Relay when the international portion of the relay travels through Kuala Lumpur on April 21, 2008. As a Worldwide Partner of the Olympic Torch Relay and TOP sponsor of the Olympic Games, Lenovo will celebrate the power of inspiration by honoring individuals as torchbearers who embody the Olympic Spirit by motivating their peers and communities.

“We are delighted that Kuala Lumpur has been selected as a stop on the international portion of the Olympic Torch Relay route,” said Dion Weisler, VP and GM, Lenovo ASEAN/Korea. “Lenovo is pleased to welcome the Lenovo-designed torch and to honor ‘new thinkers’ from Malaysia with participation in the Olympic Torch Relay.”

The Lenovo torchbearers will be selected based on a series of criteria developed by the global Lenovo team that builds upon the criteria set by The Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG):
Uphold the Olympic spirit and dedicate themselves to the Olympic Movement;
Support the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games;
Be distinguished for remarkable feats in his/her profession or community or for a personal story that serves to inspire or motivate others;
Be willing and dedicated to community services;
Be distinguished for contributions to the Olympic Movement or for extraordinary performance at past Olympic Games.

Lenovo’s primary theme for the international portion of the Olympic Torch Relay will be centered around the “new thinker”—someone who approaches situations with an innovative philosophy and finds creative solutions to bring about global change. As a company with a dispersed management structure including people across the world and the belief that the quality of ideas are more important than where they originate, the concepts of building bridges and exploration are at the very core of the company’s new thinking ideals.

The criteria for a “new thinker”:
Motivator – One who inspires the community to achieve goals and conquer obstacles
Provocative – One who disregards traditional boundaries in carrying out a great and difficult endeavor
Imaginative – One who thinks “outside the box” – outside of national and cultural limitations
Individualistic – One who demonstrates independence in both their thoughts and their actions
Explorer – One who seeks new ways of doing and achieving

To submit nominations to be a Lenovo Torchbearer, go to http://www.lenovo.com/my/otr and select the Torchbearer Nomination tab. Nominators will be asked to submit a 100 word essay outlining how they meet both the BOCOG and Lenovo torchbearer criteria. Nominations will be accepted beginning today until September 20, 2007.

“Lenovo is proud to play a unique role in this upcoming Olympic Torch Relay as the worldwide partner for the relay,” said Yang Yuanqing, chairman of Lenovo. “We see the Olympic Torch Relay as a significant opportunity to further introduce and showcase the Lenovo brand to the world. ‘New thinkers’ are those that embody our company’s philosophy and share in our global vision. They are representative of our passion for ingenuity and exemplify the entrepreneurial spirit. We plan to honor them globally.”

The official torch lighting will take place in Olympia, Greece, in March 2008. The torch is planned to travel to 22 cities in five continents including London, Paris, San Francisco, Canberra, Mumbai, and Nagano, followed by Taipei, Hong Kong and Macau, before spending 97 days in Mainland China to arrive at its final destination in Beijing on August 8, 2008, marking the start of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
