MICROSOFT LAUNCHES PROGRAMME ENCOURAGING HOME-GROWN OEMs TO THINK “BEYOND THE BOX”
Kuala Lumpur, 15 August 2007 – Microsoft Malaysia today announced the launch of “Beyond the Box” Services (a Microsoft OEM initiative), the latest in the company’s stream of efforts to grow the Malaysian ICT industry, enabling them to engage better with their small and medium enterprise (SME) customers.
Through “Beyond the Box” Services, Microsoft’s OEM partners can now ensure that their service team can confidently offer SMEs their box and a SME Business Suite comprising Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003 R2, Microsoft Vista and Microsoft Office Small Business 2007. Microsoft will offer training, service assistance, on-the-job skills transfer, joint sales call with the partners and assist partners with basic marketing, pricing structure and legal documentation.
Aimed at encouraging local system providers to think beyond just selling boxes, “Beyond the Box” Services attempts to create a level-playing field for local systems builders to enable them to compete competitively with established system builders, empowering them to meet customers’ demands, and helping to manage their businesses more efficiently and economically.
Through “Beyond the Box” Services, Microsoft wants to also reward users of genuine Microsoft products with additional support and services, through which genuine users can enjoy a complete and richer multimedia experience, enhanced security and total confidence and peace of mind.
According to Roszita Hassan, OEM Director, Microsoft Malaysia, local home-grown PCs are comparable to branded PCs and it is time that organizations and individuals recognize the quality of local OEMs. “As an industry, Microsoft believes it is important to cultivate a level-playing field for local OEMs and to position them to be on par with established system builders.
“This was one of the reasons behind the establishment of our OEM group, so we may effectively engage with our numerous OEM partners to customize and add value to their respective products and solutions, namely Microsoft’s flagship Windows, Office and Server technologies.
“We want to help our partners leverage on Microsoft’s expertise and knowledge to expand their service offerings and to upsell their products and services, giving them new dimensions of value which they can offer their customers. “Beyond the Box” Services is about enabling partners towards monetizing their services, and we hope these services will translate into compelling value-added services for their customers,” Roszita added.
Also present at the launch today were Microsoft’s OEM partners and their corresponding customers, who have implemented and deployed Microsoft service offerings.
Civil engineering and building construction company Commerceprise (M) Sdn Bhd’s Director, Eugene Chuah said that his company was besieged by a variety of challenges which included difficulties in monitoring day-to-day business activities and lack of a secure back up system, prior to the implementation of Windows Small Business Server 2003 R2.
