TM為Universiti Malaysia寬頻網絡升級

TM SIGNS AGREEMENT WITH UNIVERSITI MALAYSIA TERENGGANU TO UPGRADE ITS BROADBAND LEASED LINE CAPACITY

Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) recently signed an agreement with Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) to upgrade the latter’s broadband leased line capacity - TM Direct, from 16Mbps to 45Mbps.

By upgrading its Internet access capacity to 45Mbps, UMT will be able to enhance the efectiveness of its operations on the entire campus, covering all departments and lecture halls.

At the ceremony held in Kuala Lumpur, TM was represented by Dato’ Adnan Rofiee, Chief Operating Officer, TM Retail, Malaysia Business, while UMT was represented by Prof. Dato’ Dr. Sulaiman bin Md. Yassin, Vice Chancellor, University Malaysia Terengganu.

TM Direct broadband service, which is provisioned to UMT will provide UMT with high speed internet access to fullfil its requirements as an institution of higher learning that places strong emphasis on quality and always at the forefront of technology. It is envisaged that by having an advanced telecommunications and technology infrastructure, coupled with the convenience of accessing information through the Internet, this would not only increase the knowledge of its management, lecturers and students, but it would also enhance the stature and competitiveness of UMT in the increasingly competitive global education sector.

Prof. Dato’ Dr. Sulaiman bin Md. Yassin, Vice Chancellor, UMT, said, “We hope that with this upgrade of our infrastructure, UMT students will easily adopt the “digital lifestyle” of today, while at the same time achieve academic excellence in their respective field of studies”.

At the signing ceremony, Dato’ Adnan Rofiee said, “This upgrade of UMT’s leased line broadband capacity – TM Direct, comes at an opportune time as it supports the progress and development of the University, towards improving the overall effectiveness of the management and administration systems of all departments”.

“Besides providing high speed Internet connectivity, TM has also provided UMT with value added services like ‘Web Hosting’ and ‘Storage Access Network’. With these new services, UMT will be able to provide its students with more comprehensive ICT facilities and services. In addition to that, UMT will also enjoy cost savings in terms of managing and maintaining its data network as it is fully supported, monitored and managed by TM through our Network Operations Centre (NOC) based in Kuala Lumpur”, added Dato’ Adnan.

This signing ceremony is also part of TM’s effort in supporting the Government’s objective in realizing the objectives of setting-up the East Coast Economic Region (ECER). ECER was officially launched on 29th October 2007 in Kuala Terengganu by YAB. Dato’ Seri Abdullah Haji Ahmad Badawi, Prime Minister of Malaysia focusing on three main sectors - agriculture, tourism and education.
