IGEM 2012 Advances Green Technology for Malaysia and the World
KUALA LUMPUR, 4 DECEMBER 2012 – The region’s largest Green Technology exhibition, the International Greentech & Eco Products Exhibition & Conference (IGEM) 2012, has reported a total of RM1.3 billion in business transactions and leads generated and growing, a huge leap in advancing green technology for the nation.
IGEM2012 is the result of a successful collaborative effort by the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water (KeTTHA), the Malaysian Green Technology Corporation, and Expomal International, International Green Purchasing Network (IGPN) and Green Purchasing Network Malaysia (GPNM). Themed “Greentech for Growth”, IGEM2012 saw the convergence of stakeholders in the green industry and related sectors.
Throughout the four day exhibition, IGEM2012 was a vibrant platform in facilitating the exchange of innovative and dynamic ideas amongst stakeholders in the green industry, and at the same time, an informative hub for the public. Key focus was placed on eight major sectors – Building, Eco Products & Services, Energy, Green Financing, ICT, Manufacturing, Transportation and Water & Waste Management.

Various activities such as Business Matching Programmes, Forums, Green Career Matching, Ministerial Dialogue Session and the Malaysian Greentech Awards were conducted, to encourage as well as to expedite the process of quality trading throughout the four day event.
Representatives from Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei and Poland discussed issues from financing of green technology projects as well as the limits and growth of green technology in several nations during the Ministerial Dialogue conducted at IGEM2012.
“The governance considerations are important in policy design as well as emphasising the crucial role of green technology investment to accelerate the green technology sector,” said Janusz Zaleski, Under-Secretary of State, Ministry of Environment of Poland during the Ministerial Dialogue.
A One-to-One BizMatch Programme was also conducted during the exhibition, where 18 companies from seven countries were selected to match local traders as part of IGEM’s effort to expedite the green technology trading process.
IGEM2012 also saw participation and visits from various educational institutions to expose students at an early age on the importance of saving the environment, and also to inspire them in getting involved in green technology.
Stepping up a notch and going beyond boundaries to further drive the green growth in Malaysia, IGEM2012 acted as a strategic platform and have created an abundance of opportunities for eco-preneurs, business owners, venture capitalists, policy makers, scientists, researchers, educators and advocates of green technology to forge stronger business and community relationships.
IGEM2012 featured over 600 booths from 24 countries with seven international pavilions from Austria, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, Korea and the European Union, which led an international entourage of over 330 unique organisations in all eight major sectors.
