LINE Achieves 100 Million Milestone!


- LINE maintains accelerating growth of the number of users beyond Asia, expanding globally with its successive series of popular features like LINE Camera and LINE Games

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – January 18, 2013- LINE, the world’s leading mobile messenger with social network service, announced that it achieved 100 million users on January 18th.

At the celebratory event in Japan for hitting the 100 million milestone, NHN Japan’s CEO Akira Morikawa commented, “We have been able to reach 100 million users globally.

LINE has been ceaselessly evolving as it moves towards becoming a ‘Smartphone Life Platform.’ Since its release in June 2011 as a smartphone messenger service, it offered free calling and sticker features the same year in October. The following year, LINE rolled out more entertaining and interactive features like LINE Camera, Official Accounts, and even games that are currently leading the mobile SNS game market. Similarly, LINE had released games integrated with the mobile messaging application for the first time and starting with ‘LINE POP,’ which hit 10 million downloads within only 12 days since its release. Currently, there are a total of 12 games with over 70 million registered players. Enhancing LINE’s skyward momentum, App Annie, the industry leader in app store analytics and market intelligence for the global app economy, featured LINE’s success as the main topic for the month of December 2012, recognizing the service for carrying on a heated competition in the mobile messaging market.
