Wind Chimes in a Bakery Tugs the Heartstrings of Malaysians

A Korean style web drama inspired by the Samsung GALAXY S4 resonates with Malaysians

Kuala Lumpur, August 29, 2013 – Samsung, a leader in mobile technology and digital solutions, presented Malaysians with an emotionally-moving web series, Wind Chimes in a Bakery – a local love story inspired by Korean drama storytelling. Launched early last month, the web series has connected and resonated deeply with the hearts of Malaysians, amassing more than 3.5 million views on its YouTube channel.

The series features Adam and Sue’s love story – a boy with nothing but a dream and a girl with everything but love. Imbued with interesting twists, the story follows Adam’s journey after a tragedy that took away the love of his life.

“More than three months ago, Samsung decided to embark on an innovative journey to extend moments of discoveries and possibilities for people through Wind Chimes in a Bakery. The series is inspired by the GALAXY S4, a device with unique lifestyle features catered to capturing meaningful moments, making it a perfect Life Companion. With the positive responses we’ve had from Malaysians so far, Wind Chimes in a Bakery, too, has become a weekly companion in touching people’s lives,” said Vincent Chong, Head of Mobile Phone Division, Samsung Malaysia Electronics.

With Korean dramas gaining significant popularity in Malaysia, Samsung collaborated with Korean director, Jang Jae Hyeok, to better connect with Malaysians by giving this local production a unique Korean essence.

Jang, ecstatic that Wind Chimes in a Bakery was well-received by Malaysians, said, “I am so happy that Malaysians are excited about Wind Chimes in a Bakery. It is encouraging to see the Korean art of storytelling through drama being applied in a Malaysian context and being so well-received by Malaysians. Like them, I was drawn to the script of Wind Chimes in a Bakery as I am passionate about stories that inspire possibilities. I believe love evokes the strongest and purest emotions in audiences.”

Tan Kien Eng, Chief Executive Officer of Leo Burnett Group Malaysia, said, “Designed as a Life Companion, the Samsung GALAXY S4 enables people the power to eternalize moments, whilst propelling them forward through constant connectivity. Wind Chimes in a Bakery is a series inspired by precisely that in the context of Malaysian lifestyle. We are thoroughly excited about the collaboration with Samsung and heartened by its success thus far.”
