REDtone與Celcom合作當MVNO

REDTONE AND CELCOM IN DEAL TO ROLL OUT INDUSTRY FIRST

Kuala Lumpur, Tuesday (November 20, 2007):
In what is seen as a first in the industry, tier-2 telco REDtone International Bhd has partnered Celcom (Malaysia) Bhd in a deal that will see REDtone assuming the role of a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) for enterprise customers in the postpaid segment.

The deal with Celcom, a wholly-owned unit of Telekom Malaysia Bhd, is through REDtone’s wholly-owned subsidiary, REDtone Mobile Services Sdn Bhd.

Through the strategic partnership, REDtone Mobile will utilise Celcom’s leading network to offer a broad range of mobile phone services that will be packaged and marketed under the REDtone brand. These services which include SMS, MMS, GPRS and 3G will be targeted at enterprise customers within the postpaid segment, an area which REDtone is strong in.

Both parties today signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) for a contract period of five years.

Representing REDtone Mobile at the signing ceremony was REDtone group managing director Wei Chuan Beng, whilst chief executive officer Dato’ Sri Shazalli Ramly signed on behalf of Celcom.

REDtone’s chairman, Dato’ Larry Gan was also present.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Celcom’s chief executive officer Dato’ Sri Shazalli Ramly said that the partnership with REDtone marks yet another in a series of firsts for the industry, driven by Celcom.

“We are the most progressive of celcos in meeting the government’s intentions on MVNOs. Celcom was the first operator to enter into a nationwide domestic roaming agreement, and we were also the first to embark upon a strategic MVNO for the foreign worker’s market via our partnership with Merchantrade, and we are proud to enter the first MVNO for the enterprise segment.

Dato’ Sri Shazalli also added that this collaboration between a tier-1 and tier-2 telco is a significant milestone for the telco industry and will not only benefit both companies but consumers and the industry as a whole as well. He added that Celcom’s progressive approach towards MVNOs was a reflection of TM Group’s commitment to the Ministry of Energy, Water and Telecommunications’ vision for the industry.

“Through this initiative, Celcom stands to empower REDtone customers by offering them the benefit of the country’s widest and best 2G and 3G coverage. With our unbeatable speed, rates, coverage and service, REDtone customers will be able to enjoy the same quality of service as Celcom customers, even in the most remote areas of the country,” Dato’ Sri Shazalli said.

Commenting on the MVNO alliance, REDtone’s group managing director Wei Chuan Beng said, “We are pleased that Celcom sees the value in working alongside REDtone to roll out the country’s first MVNO-based services tailored for postpaid enterprise customers.

”With its widest, fastest and best coverage, we believe we are in the position to help Celcom turn these advantages into additional revenue for the company.”

On its decision to focus on the enterprise sector within the postpaid segment, Wei said that REDtone has built a solid reputation amongst these customers where the company has been offering services to them since 2001.

Wei said the collaboration was perfectly timed as the mobile segment, especially in the area of value-added services, is growing and offers good business opportunities for REDtone.

Wei added, “Our smart partnership with Celcom which marks the 1st time that we are collaborating with a tier-1 telco, underscores the importance that REDtone is placing in building a working relationship with Celcom and tier-1 telcos.”

According to Wei, REDtone’s move into MVNO is part of the company’s “Changing Rules, Better Alternatives” rebranding initiative as it seeks to transform itself into an alternative full-service telco provider.

”Extending our services to include Data, Broadband and Mobile will enable us to tap into the vast potential of these growth areas and to help enhance our revenue stream,” he said.

REDtone Mobile is expected to launch its MVNO services in the 1st quarter of next year.

These security threats are global and their effects impact individuals on a daily basis. Unisys approach to security goes beyond ‘bits and bytes’ recognising that there are a broad set of political, economic and consumer forces that impact the security ‘ecosystem’. IBM推廣鄉區KidSmart活動

Giving rural preschool kids the right start

Malacca, 18 November 2007 – At the Young Explorer Program (YEP) at the KidSmart Conference 2007 held in conjunction with the “Pameran Program Perkongsian Pintar Ke Arah Pembestarian Sekolah Kebangsaan 2007”, IBM announced that over more than 10,000 pre-school children across rural areas in Malaysia in rural areas have benefited from an innovative early learning program through IBM’s KidSmart Program designed to help preschoolers get a head-start on their academic development. These children were able to access the latest in educational technology, while having a strong early start to education, particularly in the areas of reading, mathematics and language.

The KidSmart program goes beyond simply donating computers for the classroom. The program includes training for pre-school teachers at every centre to effectively incorporate computer technology into an age-appropriate learning curriculum.

The Ministry of Education has endorsed the program and is in partnership with IBM to identify the schools in need.

“Our objective of developing the younger generation to fulfill the needs of Malaysia’s human resource needs are one step closer to being achieved with the implementation of the Kidsmart YEP and the pooling of best-practices between the educators of our future leaders,” said Dato’ Hajah Noor Rezan bt. Bapoo Hashim, Deputy Director General (School Department), Ministry of Education.

Over 50 teachers selected by the Minstry attended the two-day conference to exchange best practices in running IBM’s KidSmart program The innovative early learning program goes beyond simply donating computers for the classroom. It includes training for pre-school teachers at every centre to effectively incorporate computer technology into an age-appropriate learning curriculum.

The ministry and IBM Malaysia recently held a conference for fifty pre-school teachers to share their best practices in introducing computer-based learning into early education with the Young Explorer Program (YEP) at the KidSmart Conference 2007 in the Holiday Inn, Malacca. The conference was set to coincide with the “Pameran Program Perkongsian Pintar Ke Arah Pembestarian Sekolah Kebangsaan 2007”.

The pre-school teachers attended a two-day workshop where forums and training sessions were held on the best teaching techniques that they have used in their schools in utilizing the YEP to provide a more fun and immersive experience for their preschool students.

Teachers from across the nation have agreed that the KidSmart initiative has contributed value to what they are doing in schools to get pre-school students hyped-up about education and the technology that provides endless learning opportunities. The KidSmart YEP units are designed with aesthetic and intellectual ergonomics that work for young children such as user-friendly interfaces, and physical designs that appeal to them.

“The children do get excited when they look at the units, and they treat the lessons based on the KidSmart YEP as gaming sessions. In reality, what they really are doing is going through a part of our education syllabus, and having a fun time learning and absorbing knowledge,” said Puan Marina binti Sirat, a preschool teacher from SK Kg. Rinching, Beranang, Selangor who has been leveraging on the KidSmart units in her teaching lessons since 2001.

“Education is of critical importance to our society, for now and for the future. Technology is one way to enhance education, and at IBM we have made education a priority in our community programs,” says Ali Munawar, Marketing Director for IBM Malaysia. “With KidSmart, IBM has combined its technical expertise with the experience of educators and teachers to make a real difference to children. The conference enables the sharing of best ideas and knowledge from preschool teachers across the nation through open discussions on how best to utilize the technology that we have provided to make learning through computers more effective for children of young ages.”
