Muhammad Shukri Mustaffa, Managing Director, Ambang Ideal Sdn Bhd, Puan Nooraini Ismail, Chief Librarian,IIUM dan Larry Leow, Country Manager, Malaysia, Lexmark International.

Lexmark brings industry leaders together for first “Print Less. Save More” summit

Malaysian companies discover how to save up to 40 per cent on printing costs

Kuala Lumpur, 1 December 2011: Lexmark recently held its first “Print Less. Save More” summit to educate Malaysian organisations about how to achieve great savings on printing costs. The workshop and networking session in at The Gardens Hotel and Residences revealed the hidden costs of document output that affect most companies. It introduced smart solutions that companies can implement to streamline workflow for improved productivity and more savings, and discussed practices that other companies are adopting to reduce capital expenses and better manage operating costs.

Hosted by Larry Leow, Acting County Manager for Lexmark Malaysia, the event was attended by senior IT personnel from 17 companies across various industries. Also present were George Ang and Jamie Atherton from Lexmark Asia Pacific.
Participants with Larry Leow, Acting County Manager for Lexmark Malaysia

Huge cost savings and greening opportunities revealed
According to Leow:
• Know the importance of having managed print output. A system that can monitor printing activity and identify potential cost savings can achieve savings of up to 40 per cent.
• Wastage is more common than you think. As many as 67% of organisations have unmanaged print output. Worse, in an indiscriminate printing environment, as many as 1 in 6 pages is discarded unread.
• Less expenditure on printing resources = less expenditure of company revenue = more profit!
• It’s easier than ever to go green. Track printing output down to the last sheet to control wastage. Companies can even reward prudent use of printing resources to motivate green behaviour.
• Keep in mind Lexmark’s Managed Print Solutions cost savings philosophy: The lowest cost per page is the page that was never printed.

An eye-opener for participants
One of the participants said, “Many organisations also do not realise that other than the wastage of printing supplies, additional wastage that can occur, especially in companies that use old printers due to the legacy system, include the cost of repairs during frequent equipment breakdown and loss of productivity hours during equipment down time.”

Many of the summit’s participants were surprised that they were not alone with their printing woes, as other companies from the same industry and beyond had also experienced the same issues.

“Lexmark’s summit today is a great event for introducing good printing solutions. Many of us had our eyes opened about the volume of savings that can be achieved by good management of printing resources within a company. Lexmark’s system is ideal for implementation in any company,” he added.

The summit ended with a dinner together with the Lexmark Malaysia team, representatives from Lexmark Singapore and members of Perceptive Concept’s team from Australia.

It is a great package for organisations who are environmental and cost conscious. This practice also extends to the team at Lexmark and this initiative at the FRIM is a great example of where both individuals and organisations can make a difference.”

Lexmark Malaysia’s team arrived bright and early at FRIM and apart from planting the trees; they also took the opportunity to enjoy the fresh air and the luscious green surroundings of FRIM.

Lexmark survey: Work-at-home pros say they do much to maintain environmentally friendly offices

Petaling Jaya - 09/21/2007

Professionals who work at home say they take numerous steps to make their home offices environmentally friendly.

That’s according to a new online survey commissioned by Lexmark International, Inc. (NYSE: LXK), a leading provider of printers and imaging products, services and solutions. The survey included 1,000 respondents in three categories:
• People who bring work home from the office on weeknights or weekends (48 percent of respondents).
• People who operate a home-based business (29 percent of respondents).
• People who telecommute from home at least periodically (23 percent of respondents).

Across all categories of respondents, 80 percent of respondents overall said they consider themselves “environmentally aware,” 84 percent said they are concerned about the environment, and 76 percent said they want to do more to help the environment.
Following are the activities respondents said they already do “always” or “sometimes”:
• Turn off lights when leaving room for more than a few minutes, 93 percent.
• Use power saving features on computer, 82 percent.
• Recycle paper, 80 percent.
• Use of energy efficient light bulbs, 77 percent.
• Use power saving features on printer, 74 percent.
• Recycle ink cartridges, 73 percent.
• Print on both sides of paper, 62 percent.
• Use a network printer to reduce energy use by multiple printers, 37 percent.

“Professionals who are working at home not only want to be more productive, they also want to reduce their impact on the environment. These goals do not need to be mutually exclusive,” said Paul A. Rooke, Lexmark executive vice president and president of its Consumer Printer Division.

Rooke noted that Lexmark’s new line of wireless all-in-one (AIO) inkjet printers can help.1
The printers’ wireless capabilities enable users to work anywhere in the home that is accessible on their wireless networks, meaning that all of the computers in the house can print wirelessly to the same printer, eliminating the need for multiple printers and potentially different supplies items.

In addition, automatic two-sided printing is available on four models. This means users do not need to intervene to flip over paper in order to print on both sides of a page. While 62 percent of respondents said they always or sometimes print on both sides of a page, 77 percent said they would do so if the printer automated the two-sided printing process.

Four Lexmark models provide three-in-one or four-in-one wireless capabilities, responding to home office professionals’ need to copy, scan and fax while also eliminating the need for separate scanning, copying and faxing devices.

“Lexmark has for many years been helping our business customers print less, which helps them reduce their environmental impact. Now, our new wireless AIO printers can help you reduce the environmental impact of your home office too,” Rooke said.

Survey MethodologyThe online survey was conducted July 27-31 for Lexmark by MarketTools, a third-party research firm, which maintains online panel communities. Men represented 56 percent of respondents while women represented 44 percent. Respondents represented all regions of the U.S. in roughly equal proportions. Respondents were aged 18 through 64. The margin of error is +/- 3 percent.

Lexmark, Ipsos research: Who is working wirelessly at home?

Petaling Jaya, July 3, 2007 – Research commissioned by Lexmark International, Inc. (NYSE: LXK) and carried out by global pollster Ipsos shows differences among respondents in 18 countries regarding their tendencies to work at home. The online survey conducted by Ipsos comprised 9,000 tech-savvy home computer users.

Ninety percent of respondents said they believe wireless networks will be important to everyday life in their homes over the next five years. Forty percent of respondents said they have already installed wireless networks in their homes and said they use their wireless networks to connect numerous devices and to support a broad range of activities.

Of those with wireless networks at home, 47 percent of respondents worldwide said that the technology enables them to perform work-related activities in the home. Responses by country varied (differences of 5 percent or more are statistically significant):

· Poland, 76 percent
· Mexico, 72 percent1
· South Africa, 63 percent1
· Austria, 62 percent

“Harnessing the full productivity of your wireless home network requires that you be able to print wirelessly as well. That’s where Lexmark comes in. Our new line of wireless inkjet printers will take the pain out of wireless printing by making it easy and affordable,” said Najib Bahous, Lexmark vice president and president of its Consumer Printer Division.

Until now, consumers have been slow to embrace wireless printing because of the high price of the wireless printers in the market and the complexity involved in their installation and use.

With the introduction of its 2007 inkjet product line, Lexmark will offer the broadest, most affordable range of wireless printers in the market. Pricing starts at RM249.
Wireless printing enables users to print with the same freedom and mobility they enjoy when working on a wireless laptop computer. Users can place the printer anywhere in the home covered by their wireless networks. In addition, multiple computer users can enjoy the added convenience of sharing the same wireless printer, eliminating the need for multiple devices.

Lexmark

Lexmark's Commitment to the Environment

Lexmark works diligently to develop and implement industry-leading environmental practices that relate not only to its products, but to everything it does, everywhere in the world.

As a provider of printing solutions and an ongoing stream of consumables, Lexmark has a unique environmental outlook. Each year, Lexmark produces and distributes millions of supplies for Lexmark printers including X5470, X1270 and C500n. For twelve years, Lexmark has recovered and reused or recycled its used toner cartridges. The result is less solid waste and fewer resources consumed.

Lexmark’s Cartridge Collection Program includes various methods of return and sponsors unique collection partnerships around the world. Collection programs are always free to the consumer and are designed to be easy to participate in.

Why is Lexmark doing this?Lexmark has environmental objectives that are implemented through a strategy to:

Reduce the volume of solid waste material disposed of by its customers
Reuse products and materials where possible
Recycle, when possible, what can’t be reused.

Returned cartridges are recycled with a 100% zero waste to landfill outcome, with no incineration. That way, cartridges are kept out of the solid waste stream.

How does it work?

It’s simple. The Lexmark Cartridge Collection Program offers an easy, effective and environmentally positive way to handle empty cartridges. Individual empty cartridges can be returned by the consumer by contacting their dealer or retailer wherever they purchased the cartridges or by calling Lexmark on (603) 7492 0862 to arrange collection. Empty cartridges may also be returned to participating Lexmark Authorised Supplies Resellers.

Cartridges that cannot be reused are processed for material recovery to maximize the percent of material reuse. Greater than 90 percent of the weight of the returned toner cartridges is recycled as raw materials and made into new plastic, aluminum, ferrous metal or paper products.

When it comes to the planet, Lexmark understands that there is no substitute. Lexmark strives to provide industry-leading environmental practices that not only relate to its products, but to everything it does, everywhere in the world.
