Company Also Maintains a Strong Position in Overall Network Security Appliance Market
Malaysia, 20 June 2008 ― Fortinet – the pioneer and leading provider of unified threat management (UTM) solutions – today announced that new IDC research data confirms that the company again ranked No. 1 in worldwide UTM factory revenue for Q1 2008, fueled primarily by large enterprise and MSSP adoption of its FortiGate network security appliances. For nine consecutive quarters, Fortinet continues to lead the UTM market ahead of Check Point, Cisco, Crossbeam, Juniper and SonicWALL.
Data in the latest IDC Worldwide Quarterly Security Appliance Tracker, June 2008 confirmed:
##Fortinet is the overall leader in UTM factory revenue for Q1 2008, ahead of Check Point, Cisco, Crossbeam, Juniper and SonicWALL
##Fortinet is the No. 1 vendor in the high-end UTM ($50K-$99.9K) price band for both factory revenue and units shipped
##Fortinet is the No. 1 vendor in the enterprise UTM (25K-$49.9K) price band segments for both factory revenue and units shipped
##Fortinet is the overall leader in UTM factory revenue for Western Europe and Asia Pacific for Q1 2008
“As evidenced by IDC’s latest numbers, Fortinet has remained at the forefront of the network security market – holding our UTM factory revenue lead for more than two years and continuing to strengthen our position as one of the largest network security appliance vendors worldwide,” said Ken Xie, president, founder and CEO of Fortinet. “Fortinet’s leadership has consistently been fueled by large enterprises that require a new generation security gateway for real-time protection of their networks and content, as well as MSSPs and carriers who want to offer truly integrated security services to their customers.”
According to IDC, UTM security appliance products include multiple security features integrated into one device. To be included in this category, as opposed to other Threat Management appliance segments, UTM appliances must contain the ability to perform network firewalling, network intrusion detection and prevention, and gateway antivirus. All of the capabilities need not be utilized, but the functions must exist inherently in the appliance. In addition to the mandatory applications, UTM appliances may also host other security or networking features.
Delivered via its flagship family of FortiGate appliances, Fortinet provides a flexible platform that enables enterprises and service providers of all sizes to consolidate critical security technology and services to enhance network protection and reduce total cost of ownership. These ASIC-accelerated security appliances integrate essential security applications and services, including antivirus, firewall, VPN, intrusion prevention, Web filtering, anti-spam and traffic shaping.
All FortiGate systems are kept up-to-date by Fortinet's FortiGuard Network, which provides regular updates that help ensure protection against the most damaging, content-based threats from email and Web traffic such as viruses, worms, intrusions, other unwanted network traffic - around the clock and around the world. FortiGate appliances are complemented by an array of messaging, management and analysis systems and end-point security solutions.

SONICWALL EXPANDS HORIZONS WITH NEW E-CLASS INITIATIVE SIGNALING INTENT TO GROW SHARE IN ENTERPRISE
KUALA LUMPUR – October 17, 2007 – SonicWALL, Inc. (NASDAQ: SNWL), a leading secure network infrastructure company, today launched a new initiative intended to accelerate SonicWALL’s ongoing move into the enterprise market. The broad-based global initiative is based around SonicWALL’s E-Class solution set, a premium-performance line of secure networking, email security and remote network access offerings engineered to drive down the cost and complexity of deploying a secure infrastructure. Igniting this initiative, SonicWALL today launches a new family of multi-core processor firewalls that combine enterprise-class protection and performance in a single appliance: the NSA E7500, the NSA E6500 and the NSA E5500.
As the cybercrime economy continues to flourish and threats become harder to detect, security is now a mainstream focus for all network administrators. The need for enterprise network traffic inspection continues to grow to protect against more intensive, application layer threats, increasing security processing load and protection requirements. The majority of current network infrastructure options are complex and costly, forcing IT administrators to engage in a constant trade off between network speed and security.
SonicWALL’s growth has been fuelled by four acquisitions in less than two years: SSL VPN niche player EnKoo, data backup and recovery startup Lasso Logic, enterprise email security company MailFrontier and most recently Aventail, the leading provider of enterprise class secure remote access solutions. An acknowledged leader in the small to mid-sized IT security market, SonicWALL continues to expand its range with more sophisticated solutions for distributed enterprises and large networks.
SonicWALL’s E-Class offerings comprise: the SonicWALL Aventail range of SSL VPN secure remote access products; SonicWALL Email Security 6000 and 8000 solutions for 1000 users and above; the award-winning Global Management System policy and management software that enables central management of devices from few to tens of thousands; and the newest appliances in SonicWALL’s network security line, the NSA E-Series firewalls.
SonicWALL’s Network Security Appliance (NSA) Series represents an industry first: multi-core unified threat management (UTM) appliances that deliver deep packet inspection at gigabit speed. Combining a powerful real-time and reassembly-free deep packet inspection firewall with multiple layers of protection technology and a suite of high-availability features, the NSA series appliances are designed for the most demanding deployments including distributed enterprise environments, campus networks, data centers and small-medium businesses where bandwidth considerations require high-performance solutions.
"SonicWALL's NSA E7500 firewall is a great alternative to the premium-priced solutions from vendors such as Cisco," said Jeff Parker, offsite systems manager at Carriage Services. "With the NSA E7500, there's no trade off between functionality and value. With the NSA E 7500, I don’t have to compromise performance or security to fit into my budget. I know I’m protected while my network runs at gigabit speeds, and managing my security infrastructure has never been easier.”
The NSA Series multi-core architecture is a parallel performance design delivering ultra high-speed threat protection and deployment scalability. SonicWALL Application Firewall, a set of customizable protection tools, offers administrators precise control and inspection capabilities over their network traffic. A suite of high availability features at the hardware and system level deliver operational reliability and measurably improved uptime. The NSA series offers enterprise customer an extensive array of advanced network and configuration flexibility features, ease of integration, and deployment flexibility designed to provide lowered management complexity and exceptional value.
The NSA E7500 is designed to serve central enterprise sites with distributed networks in environments such as web or application hosting, ISP managed services head end, or ASP infrastructure. The NSA E6500 is intended as a corporate central site appliance for mid-sized organizations, while the NSA E5500 is intended for local branch office or standalone mid-sized enterprises. Further information on the NSA series appliances is available at http://ww.sonicwall.com/newsroom/XXX .
“The new E-Class product offering demonstrates SonicWALL’s continued investment and commitment in making the industry’s easiest to manage, ultra-high speed security appliances,” said Tom McDougall, president and CEO at High Point Networks. “SonicWALL is taking its product innovation and expertise from the SMB market and applying it to the enterprise market by delivering a solution that uniquely addresses the needs of large, distributed networks.”
With the foundations of its business in the small to mid-sized business space, SonicWALL designs its technology for sophisticated performance combined with ease of deployment. SonicWALL has also developed a successful services delivery model which supports the outsourcing and managed services needs of IT organizations of all sizes.
“SonicWALL’s enterprise customers tell us they are tired of overpaying for complex, underperforming, proprietary solutions,” said Matt Medeiros, president and chief executive officer at SonicWALL. “In contrast to the majority of offerings in this maturing industry, SonicWALL E-Class solutions have been designed to drive enterprise performance and productivity gains by engineering cost and complexity out of the secure infrastructure. We start from the premise that the majority of businesses face a shortage of IT personnel and time. SonicWALL’s focus on practical effectiveness resonates not only with our worldwide channel base and millions of SMB users, but increasingly with the needs of enterprise IT professionals.”
"We're looking forward to working with SonicWALL on bringing their latest products to market," said James Carter, CTO at The Integration Works. "Based on SonicWALL's proven track record for product innovation and commitment to creating an outstanding experience for its customers, we anticipate high demand from the enterprise marketplace for the new E-Class product offering."
The NSA E7500 is available immediately. The E6500 and E5500 firewalls will be available in Q4 2007.

SonicWall:經理們漸接受雇員在公司外面上班
SonicWall: Managers Believe In Motivational Benefits of Remote Working
Kuala Lumpur – September 14, 2007 – According to a survey of more than 1,100 managers by secure infrastructure firm SonicWALL (NASDAQ: SNWL; www.sonicwall.com), business leaders and managers are becoming more comfortable with their staff working remotely, although concerns remain about the impact of the remote work force on employee productivity, effective teambuilding and computer security.
The survey of management views on remote working, sponsored by SonicWALL, Inc. and conducted in the U.S. and Australia indicates more than half of the respondents believe that offering their employees the ability to work remotely is a competitive necessity or at minimum a motivating perk for employees. More than a third of the 1,184 managers surveyed have employees that work out of the office more than 20% of the time. The chief reasons to change their minds among managers with no formal remote worker policy in place are: employee motivation (26%); cost of office space (15%); rising gas prices (14%); and traffic or weather conditions (14%).
Half of poll takers also reported that their firms have formal remote worker policies in place. But despite this growing support for offsite working, business leaders identified several concerns unique to managing a remote work force. The top three anxieties – each reported by more than 20% of respondents -- included:
· Worry over whether their remote workers will remain productive, in spite of the fact that more managers – 34% -- believe remote workers are more productive rather than equally or less productive than their in-office peers;
· Challenges to building strong teams, with 15% believing remote workers are missing out on an aspect of the job by not being in the office;
· And concerns about potential security breaches resulting from remote access, especially top-of-mind for almost a quarter of respondents who had no policy in place for securing remote access.
“Our findings confirm that the majority of IT managers need to reassess their plans for safely connecting remote workers to corporate network resources,” said Steve Franzese, vice president of marketing at SonicWALL. “In our 2006 survey of remote workers, we found that security rated very low on their priority list. It’s therefore incumbent upon IT administrators to deploy flexible and practical secure remote access technology that enforces strict security but is easy to manage and even easier for remote employees to use.”
Location of their remote workers matters to managers. Most (22%) prefer to think of their staff working from home, followed by 16% who find working from hotel business centers acceptable. Coffee shops airports, public libraries and wireless hotspots received limited support – between 6% and 9%. Fewer than 2% of managers would look kindly on workers who choose a wired beach, pool or stadium from which to conduct business.

SONICWALL最新電郵保安數據顯示威脅有增無減
LATEST SONICWALL EMAIL SECURITY STATISTICS SHOW RISING THREAT FROM PDF AND ZIP SPAM, PHISHING ON THE INCREASE AGAIN
KUALA LUMPUR – August 17, 2007 – Data collected by SonicWALL, Inc. (NASDAQ: SNWL) from its Smart Network database of over 1.3 million e-mail users shows ongoing growth in the volume of spam, virus and phishing attacks, increased use of PDF spam and the emergence of a new wave of Excel and Zip spam. The results were based on aggregated results from the SonicWALL Smart Network from April to July, 2007.
SonicWALL’s analysis shows that Directory Harvest Attacks (DHA), Denial of Service (DoS) and similar attacks decreased by 2% over the quarter, but still accounted for 55.7% of e-mail flowing into inboxes. Spam, viruses and phishing attacks, increased by 4% from Q1 2007, and comprised 37.4% of all e-mail, with the remaining 6.9% being Good email – a 3% increase over Q1 2007.
During the second quarter of 2007, PDF spam emerged as a persistent threat. These types of e-mail attacks typically contain little to no text in the body but attach a PDF file, usually a stock or drug spam message containing malicious code, which, if opened, can be automatically downloaded onto a victim’ s computer. SonicWALL believes the widespread adoption of PDF spam illustrates the adaptability of spammers in finding new techniques to counteract image spam prevention techniques.
“PDF spam demonstrates the continued innovation in spam techniques that attempt to bypass anti-spam detection and trick employees into opening e-mails that give the appearance of legitimate business letters,” said Andrew Klein, senior product manager for SonicWALL’s Email Security division. “PDF spam is effective because files in PDF format have long been considered an acceptable way for businesses to transfer information. Much like phishing emails, spammers have manipulated the trust factor to get past both technical and psychological defenses.”
More recently, SonicWALL has detected an increasing amount of Excel and ZIP file spam. Utilizing the same trust-busting premise as PDF spam, Excel and ZIP spam succeed because they mimic legitimate correspondence to get more eyes to view the message.
Klein commented, “Think about how many times you’ve fired off a PDF or ZIP file to someone with no message or a simple note along the lines of ‘Here it is’. Spammers are mimicking this behavior. As a result, it is difficult to educate email users as to which emails to open and which to ignore. The results are that if a PDF spam message gets into a user’s Inbox, it is has a much higher likelihood that it will be opened than a traditional spam message.”
SonicWALL recently introduced a new Image Inference Engine (IIE) capability to strengthen the Image Spam analysis and protection techniques in its Email Security solutions. The IIE extracts core features of an image that a spammer cannot manipulate and utilizes these features to help determine if an email is ‘good’ or spam. The engine also seeks out disguises within the image and incorporates these key indicators into the decision making process as well. The IIE is available in Version 6.0 of SonicWALL’s Email Security. “We added the IIE to our library of spam fighting techniques to help fight image spam, because existing technologies such a Optical Character Recognition (OCR) could not match the throughout speed of our system. In addition, OCR technology is challenged by various spammer tricks such as image tilting and shading and as a result is less effective,” said Klein.

SonicWALL unveils new Aventail STv platform, offering enhanced management and remote access control capabilities for enterprises
KUALA LUMPUR, 6 AUGUST, 2007 — SonicWALL, Inc. (NASDAQ: SNWL), a leading provider of IT security and data protection solutions, today launched the latest version of its award-winning Aventail SSL VPN remote access platform that makes it easier than ever for organizations to manage security threats and control remote access. Aventail STv is the first product delivered following the completion of SonicWALL’s acquisition of Aventail Corporation on July 11, 2007.
Aventail STv from SonicWALL adds a number of advanced features designed to provide benefits in three key areas: detecting the identity and security of the end point; protecting applications through granular access controls; and connecting users securely to network applications. New capabilities include multi-box management, attachment blocking, Vista support and SmartPhone support.
Aventail STv is the first enterprise level SSL VPN solution available to users of SmartPhones and PDAs. SonicWALL’s Aventail STv SSL VPNs secures access from devices running Windows, Windows Mobile, Linux, and Macintosh, and enables comprehensive reach to all network resources with granular policy and bi-directional access controls.
The need for Aventail STv
With the growth in the number of mobile workers and SmartPhones and PDA devices connected to the network, IT managers must deal with higher volumes of security threats from a variety of sources. Providing secure remote access control via SSL VPN for remote and traveling employees, third-party consultants and guest users is an essential element both in protecting the network from security threats and in managing a disaster recovery scenario.
“Aventail STv makes it easier for enterprises to manage scenarios based on mobile workers using SmartPhone Mobile PDAs, and plan for disaster recovery, pre-production lab deployments, and global deployments—with the ease of use that its customers have come to expect from this award-winning remote access solution,” said Chris Witeck, director of product marketing at SonicWALL. “Aventail STv is the first enterprise level remote access solution offering universal access through a single gateway, a seamless user experience, and central management for all access methods. With this release, we are offering our most advanced new features to date.”
Features of Aventail STv include:
· Multi-Box Management, enabling network managers to manage their global remote access control policy from a single location that can be easily replicated to additional appliances—a valuable asset for organizations leveraging the solution for disaster recovery, pre-production lab deployments and global deployments.
· Attachment Blocking, making it easy to create security policies that associate trust for the end device with the ability to download email attachments or other sensitive data. For example, organizations can increase security by allowing users to download attachments from managed machines while blocking the download of email attachments by non-managed machines.
· Vista Support, providing ease of use and universal access across devices, including those running Vista, with both of its market-leading access methods: the clientless Workplace and Connect Tunnel.
· SmartPhone Support. Aventail is the only secure remote access solution that provides:
o comprehensive client/server support for Microsoft Windows Mobile PDAs and Smartphones;
o end point control interrogation to determine trust for mobile devices, enabling access to be limited appropriately;
o the ability to create universal policies, enabling network managers to set security and access control policies, that apply to users on laptops, kiosks, and mobile devices, in a single operation.
Customers will also benefit from additional security features in the Aventail STv SSL VPN platform including the market’s fastest and most advanced end point checking, Advanced Reporting, Support for Microsoft IE7, Advanced Microsoft Active Directory Support, Virtual Keyboard, Device Watermarking, Quarantine Zones, End Point Control for mobile devices, simplified setup with Dynamic Groups, single sign-on (SSO) support with Dual/Stacked Authentication and Forms-Based Configuration, Session Persistence for roaming access, enhanced Citrix support, and NAT mode for Smart Tunneling that streamlines administrative support of IP address pools.

The offsite CDP appliance can also be configured to backup multiple local CDP appliances.
“Box-to-Box Backup allows our customers to take control over their data backup and recovery solutions. And we believe that there is positive demand for what SonicWALL has to offer to help improve organizations’ business critical resources”, said Mark Gill, Managing Director of ACA Pacific Technology Sdn. Bhd., SonicWALL’s distributor in Malaysia. “Box-to-Box Backup creates new business opportunities for us, and we have no doubts that it is one of the best value-added solutions we have to offer to satisfy the growing needs of our diverse customer base.”
Using Box-to-Box Backup, the most current copy of data can rapidly be recovered after a disaster strikes, reducing business downtime from hours and days to minutes and seconds. This capability allows employees have the most recent data at their fingertips within minutes and business to be up and running as usual.
“With Box-to-Box Backup, our partners are able to offer their customers a more rounded out backup and recovery solution for disaster readiness,” said Matthew Bolton, Product Manager for SonicWALL’s Continuous Data Protection business unit. “We wanted to make our Continuous Data Protection solutions more appealing to prospective customers. Box-to-Box Backup allows our partners to host and manage their customers’ offsite data backup and also to reach the set of customers that want to manage their own data backup and recovery solution completely.”

Sonicwall欲收購Aventail
SONICWALL, INC. TO ACQUIRE AVENTAIL CORPORATION
KUALA LUMPUR – June 20, 2007 – SonicWALL, Inc. (NASDAQ: SNWL), a leading provider of IT security and data backup and recovery solutions, today announced that it has entered into an agreement to acquire Aventail Corporation, a Seattle-based, privately-held provider of market-leading SSL VPN remote access solutions, for approximately USD$25 million in cash. The transaction is expected to close in July, 2007 and is subject to customary conditions. SonicWALL expects that there will be no impact from the transaction to its financial performance in the second quarter of 2007 and reaffirms its revenue guidance of USD$45 - $47 million.
Improving secure remote access is among the top priorities of today’s distributed, global enterprises. Consensus from industry analysts indicates that 85% or more of the data that IT managers seek to protect originates outside the corporate network. To address this growing need, Chief Security Officers are seeking comprehensive remote access solution sets and products combining high performance with value, and capable of integration into multi-faceted IT environments.
Today’s move enables SonicWALL to better meet the needs of a broader set of customers by combining the two companies’ complementary SSL VPN offerings.
Aventail is recognized as a leader and visionary for its higher-end SSL VPN enterprise control deployments. With its suite of appliances designed for small and mid-sized organizations, SonicWALL has become the unit market share leader for SSL VPN appliances, according to the Infonetics Research report “Network Security Appliances and Software”, Q106 to 4Q06.
“The Aventail acquisition is an important step in our growth strategy. SonicWALL is number one in SSL VPN unit share worldwide, and this acquisition will help grow our revenue share. We will compete more effectively in the remote access space, building on complementary elements in our two organizations, and offer new solutions that enhance our relevance for today’s dynamic enterprise,” said Matthew Medeiros, president and chief executive officer at SonicWALL.
“SonicWALL’s vision of delivering practical, value innovation IT solutions clearly resonates with mid-tier and enterprise businesses. We will continue our investment in leadership across all price points of the SSL VPN space.”
“This is an exciting move for Aventail, and we look forward to serving an expanding customer base even more effectively as a result of the acquisition,” said Evan Kaplan, president and chief executive officer at Aventail.
”SonicWALL offers a wide variety of products relevant to Aventail’s customers and channel partners. Our combined product sets and expertise offer great potential for future cross-development and growth.”
An acknowledged leader in the small to mid-sized IT security market, SonicWALL enterprise offerings include products such as central management software, Email Security 6000 and 8000 solutions, PRO Series Unified Threat Management appliances and newly-announced E7500 firewall for larger organizations.
With the addition of Aventail’s remote access technology for mid-tier and enterprise, SonicWALL expands its portfolio of higher end solutions that address the growing need for flexible and easily managed network security, access and control.
SonicWALL will continue to rely on its worldwide channel network and two-tier distribution model. SonicWALL plans not only to sustain but also grow the current feature sets of both companies’ products and will additionally pursue opportunities for cross pollination of technologies across both product lines as well as synergistic opportunities to enter new and separate product areas.

SONICWALL UNVEILS NETWORK SECURITY APPLIANCE DELIVERING BREAKTHROUGH PERFORMANCE AND VALUE FOR LARGER NETWORKS
Larger organizations increasingly require their IT departments to maximize productivity and network uptime, while also ensuring regulatory compliance and security and operating within tight budget constraints. The impact of UTM solutions on network performance, plus the cost and complexity of current alternatives, has resulted in many organizations still relying on stateful packet inspection security despite its inability to protect against dynamic network threats. The NSA E7500 is designed to address these concerns, allowing mid-tier and enterprise organizations to reap the benefits of deep packet inspection security throughout their networks.
“IT administrators are frustrated with security solutions having poor price/performance,” said Douglas Brockett, vice president and general manager at SonicWALL. “They are looking for performance, ease of management, insightful reporting and scalability to help them support their corporate financial goals. SonicWALL is rising to this challenge by being the first to deliver ultra high performance deep packet inspection in an appliance that can easily be deployed and integrated in any size of network. Many threats now originate within the LAN, so deep packet inspection across every interface on the network is essential.”

The NSA E7500 features SonicWALL’s characteristic ease of management combined with low cost of ownership and a rich set of inbound and outbound network control capabilities. These characteristics are enabled through SonicWALL Application Firewall, a set of customizable protection tools that prevent data leakage and afford precise control over network traffic. The granular, application-specific policies enabled by SonicWALL Application Firewall allow custom access control on multiple levels. Capabilities of SonicWALL Application Firewall include inbound and outbound content control, application level access control, intelligent prevention functionality and digital rights management functionality.
SonicWALL has engineered the appliance as the most powerful security product in its class through the combined use of sixteen general purpose security processing cores. The scalable multi-core architecture of the NSA E7500 provides gigabit-scale deep packet inspection throughput with multiple layers of protection.
The NSA E7500 incorporates a suite of high availability features at the hardware and system level to maximize uptime and improve security coverage. The platform includes integrated security services including dynamic threat prevention, content filtering and application control. The NSA E7500 also includes virtual private network (VPN) implementations and deployment flexibility, four high-speed gigabit Ethernet copper interfaces and four high-speed configurable SFP (small form-factor pluggable) ports, and built-in secure wireless LAN functionality, making the appliance an ideal solution for wired and wireless applications requiring high-speed access and heavy
workgroup segmentation. Deployment flexibility and productivity enhancements are achieved through the integration of standards-based VoIP capabilities, virtual local area networks (VLANs), enterprise class-routing and QoS features.
The NSA E7500 is the first offering in SonicWALL’s new E Class, a line of premium performance solutions designed to provide network and data technology to large networks. The NSA E7500 will ship in Fall of 2007.
