PIKOM PC Fair 2008 in Ipoh this Friday

Aug 11, 2008 - The last leg of PIKOM PC Fair 2008's mid year edition is scheduled to take place this Friday at Ipoh's Indera Mulia Stadium.

According PIKOM PC Fair 2008 organising committee chairman Low Wai Sun, the venue will host 66 exhibitors offering a colourful spectrum of computing mobility and lifestyle devices.

The three-day fair starts September 12, 2008 continuing after a three week pause. "We expect a high turnout as Ipoh is a city that has bold initiatives to weave information nd communications technology (ICT) into its community fabric," said Low, alluding to Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission report early this year.

The report ranked Perak as the fourth largest state with 111 hotspots at last year's end, almost tripling from 44 in 2005. It also ranked Perak as having the largest Internet and computer community access at 55 Community Communications Development Program and five Rural Internet Centres. "Such results are reflective of the fast paced consumer ICT development in the state, and this progress is also visibly seen at the fair," remarked Low.

Notebook PCs, digital cameras, laser printers, Internet security or anti virus software, branded multimedia devices and PC accessories are expected to be in high demand. "Visitors will benefit from cost savings, greater variety and attractive offers," highlighted Low, adding that more than 20,000 visitors are expected at this week's fair.

He said PIKOM has already tallied more than 91,000 visitors during the fair's third leg last month. "This is a high turnout. We saw prominent visitor growth for the four venues. For example, we counted approximately 25,000 visitors at the fair in Alor Setar and 24,000 in Kuantan," he said.

By comparison, it was only 16,000 and 23,000 respectively when it was last held in December 2007 and April 2008. "We tracked 22,000 visitors at Kota Bharu, which increased from 18,000 and 20,000 at Kuala Terengganu, an increase from 19,000 last December."

Such results positively reflect growing consumer ICT awareness nationwide, said Low. "This is good news and it appears we are one step closer to help narrow this nation's digital gap."
