Canon looks at bigger and better opportunities

Logistics facilities for its Malaysian operations expand more than two times its current size

KUALA LUMPUR, 23rd March 2009 - Canon Marketing (Malaysia), a global leader in photographic equipment and digital imaging solutions, made its move to a new warehouse more than twice its current size.

Situated in Bukit Jelutong, the warehouse is approximately 120,000 sq.ft. The shift was motivated by the need for a larger and more comprehensive logistic operation to cater for the Canon’s expanding product range and services throughout the nation. The warehouse currently stores inventory and distribute to all customers in East and West Malaysia under the Canon banner.

“We made the move largely because the current place has already served us for 10 years and it was high time for us to relocate to a larger and more efficient facility. Also the business growth that we are experiencing is tremendous and the number of products for disbursement nationwide has increased. Therefore we need a more developed warehouse to manage the product traffic,” says Mr. Chua Hock Keat, Director, Logistics Division, Canon Marketing (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd.

The larger warehouse is taken on by Canon on a lease basis and it is set to be equipped with modern logistics facilities to promote higher efficiency. Systems will be installed to manage the requests for sales, demo and display purposes for Canon’s dealers, concept stores, partners and customers nationwide.

“Canon’s business has grown rapidly over the last 10 years. The business segment with large-capacity production multi function printers, copiers, and industry specific printers have entered the market. We have also opened up to innovative projectors, scanners, camcorders, photo printers, and maintained our hold on the camera and printer businesses. More so, consumables are also part of our product line up. With all of these in tow, it’s no surprise that our business now requires larger warehousing capabilities,” added Mr. Liew Sip Chon, President & CEO of Canon Marketing (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd.

“The new location is built-to-spec and is customized to our needs. Therefore we are ready to be 100% productive on day one of our cross over.” enthused Chua.

More than accommodating the growing business segments of Canon, the use of a more suitable warehouse will reduce operational costs considerably with improve lead time and faster delivery of goods.

“Also another key attraction to the move was the presence of numerous logistics companies in the area. This would support our delivery system to our partners and branches around Malaysia” Chua added.

“We have invested heavily into the new warehouse as a step towards complimenting and accommodating the growing needs of our customers. This new facility should serve us well for at least another 10 years taking into consideration our projected growth rate of 10% per annum,” Liew said.

He further added, “We have plans for expansion of our network to reach out to our customers with more concept stores like the ones we have set up in the Klang Valley. So the shift to the new warehouse is the first step towards Canon’s move to increase its share in the market. The logistics systems applied will also undergo rapid changes similar to our product cycles and business ventures,”

The new warehouse will be operational from 24th March 2009 at: No 2, Block A, Jalan Bumbung U8/90, Seksyen U8, Perindustrian Bukit Jelutong, 40150, Bandar Shah Alam, Selangor Darul Ehsan. Contact Details- Tel: 03-7842 5869 and Fax: 03-7842 5767.
