The Data Centre Park is specially designed for data centre service providers and large organizations planning to build their own data centre buildings. It comprises of 4 buildings with a combined data centre floor space of 200,000 sq ft.

At the launch of i-City Data Centre Park… Y.Bhg. Tan Sri Dato’ Hamad Kama Piah Che Othman, Chairman of I-Berhad (also PNB Group, President and Group Chief Executive) (right) handing over keys of the 1st Data Centre building block in i-City to YAM Tunku Dato’ Seri Shahabuddin bin Tunku Besar Burhanuddin, Executive Chairman of Kompakar Inc Berhad (left) for their fit-out of the Tier-4 ready data centre which is expected to go live in June 2009. This ceremony is witnessed by Y.B. Datuk Dr Maximus Johnity Ongkili, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation (middle).

i-City’s Data Centre Park with its dual power sources, carrier-neutral telecommunication accessibility and high load capacity provides a compelling alternative for businesses to build their data centres in i-City. the Data Centre Park will also offer other shared facilities such as secondary power sources, cooling, fire fighting facilities and perimeter securities. Additionally, as the Data Centre Park is also located within i-City’s Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) Malaysia Cybercentre zone, offering world-class infrastructure and facilities, it would be appealing to shared services and outsourcing providers.

i-City’s achievement to-date is a result of the culmination of partnership with strategic allies to look at innovative ways to use digital technology. When i-City was launched 4 years ago, it was after considerable consultation and input from technology partners such as Intel and Cisco. This partnership concept is continued today for the Data Centre Park with Kompakar Inc Berhad, a leading information and communications technology (ICT) provider as partner and anchor tenant whom will commence operations in June 2009.

“The launch of the Data Centre Park is another milestone in the continuous evolution of i-City, propelling it to become the next generation digital city as very few developments around the world offer similar combination of grade A office space and top-tier Data Centre within the same location.

When I-Berhad first embarked on the i-City project, the underlying objective is how digital technology can offer i-City tenants to provide better communication and IT services, as well as to lower total cost of operations.” said Y.Bhg. Tan Sri Dato’ Hamad Kama Piah Che Othman, Chairman of I-Berhad

“From a business perspective, we believe this is critical to any company wishing to remain competitive in the marketplace. When i-City is able to help our tenants achieve these, then i-City will become relevant to the businesses.”

Y.B. Datuk Dr. Maximus Johnity Ongkili, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation said that i-City is an important milestone for the MSC programme as it is the first private sector purpose-built cybercentre in Malaysia. “We are encouraged by this private initiative as many of the facilities and services in i-City surpassed the qualifying criteria set up by Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC). In fact, we are looking at how i-City can be the benchmark for future cybercentres in the country.”

According to the Minister, the Data Centre Park is yet another example of how i-City consistently plays an important role in the government’s agenda to move Malaysia up the information, communication and technology (ICT) value chain. Data Centres represent one of the fastest growing segments in the Malaysia ICT industry and the government also recognizes that data centre is a key economic driver, with large impact on the ICT and knowledge sectors.

The Minister added that while today the country is facing a challenging economic landscape brought about by the global financial crisis, ICT can provide a competitive edge for companies. I-City is a good example as its technology infrastructure and office services will enable companies operating in i-City to be able to lower their cost of operations by 33 %.

Meanwhile I-Berhad will be paying a final dividend of 5% less applicable tax for the year ended 31 December 2008 on 15 May 2009. The entitlement date for the said dividend shall be 27 April 2009.

From the financial perspective, I-Berhad achieved record (pre-tax) profits of RM16 million in 2008. The Group is still financially strong with more than RM120m cash and zero borrowings.
