Petaling Jaya, Malaysia – May 24, 2012
30 participants gathered at the Hackaway Hands-On Workshop, hosted by EC-Council Academy, to experience and witness - firsthand, how easy it is to penetrate everyday websites and systems.
The participants experienced both shock and awe as they witnessed basic level hacking. Clearly reflecting that the systems and websites they’ve developed, or use on a daily basis, are not ready to protect them or their customers from such attacks either.
Hacking is no longer a fancy term used to describe tech whiz with in-depth programming skills. The increased proficiency of today’s computer user has evolved to allow even the slightly curious users can access systems and data once hidden from public.
One in four computer users are victims of cybercrime – hackers who’s benefited from the data they’ve extracted from unsecured (or weakly secured) systems and website. Cybercrime is clearly on the rise, yet only a few perceive to be at risk of falling for this threat, even fewer are prepared to mitigate the risk.
According to the workshop leader, the local cybercrime count has increased by 117% in the past year, and this are only the reported cases. Many are said to be even unaware that they have fallen for such attacks.
With the society’s escalated reliance on internet technologies, malicious hacking should be treated no differently from physical robberies, break-ins and other frauds and crimes.
To increase awareness, EC-Council Academy Sdn Bhd hosts the Hackaway Hands-On Workshop. The workshop is divided into a series of modules including Hacking Simplified, Hack in the Air, and Insight of Wired and Wireless Hacking. Participants will have the opportunity to learn and experience attacks, spot vulnerable areas in websites we use every day, and of course, an introduction to better security.
The workshops are conducted 3 times a month; however, seats are limited in each class.
