THE ROAD TO ACHIEVING A HIGH INCOME NATION.

Kuala Lumpur, 25 March 2013: Students who received their SPM results slip last Thursday had something else in store for them. Together with the slip they also received an info card directing them to a career guidance portal called iwant2b.my

The portal under SkillsMalaysia is a project under the Education National Key Economic Area (NKEA) and Human Capital Development Strategic Reform Initiative (SRI), within the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP).

The aim of this portal is to encourage youths to pursue technical education or vocational training before entering the workforce. The portal in its first phase is focused on SPM Students. It will soon expand to include the academic pathway as well as introduce programmes for students age 13 onwards and working adults.

The iwant2b.my portal maps out the career pathway for students to plan and upskill their career development. It will soon offer insight into the growth of industries and the demand for manpower under the various sectors.

The iwant2b.my portal designed to attract the younger generation has also a psychometric personality test to help match suitability for an occupation. This is one of the commitment shown by the Government to ensure our future workforce attain the necessary skills and productivity to attract high wages.

The portal is a collaboration between the Department of Skills Development, Ministry of Human Resources and PEMANDU.

This initiative by the Government is to mark a major shift in the perception of Technical Education & Vocational Training (TEVT) and support the Government’s objective to create a workforce that is highly knowledgeable, productive, competitive and multi-skilled.

This in turn will support Malaysia as we work towards being a developed and high income country by 2020.
