KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, 24 April 2008 – ProCurve Networking by HP today announced that Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang Resort and Spa in Penang has successfully implemented a unified wired and wireless network with gigabit-speed connection using ProCurve’s solutions.
The major network upgrade was to cater to the increasing number of both leisure and business travelers who stayed at the luxury resort.
The new ProCurve network provides a wireless infrastructure enabling guests to enjoy wireless Internet access throughout the resort grounds. The high-speed and robust connections ensure that guests do not lose their connectivity as they move about different parts of the resort.
Prior to this, Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang Resort and Spa had experienced many problems with its outdated local area network infrastructure as the network was not up to speed for a business operating in current demanding times. It also maintained three separate networks to manage the resort’s front and backend operations, the POS (Point-Of-Sales) system and Internet access for guests.
With ProCurve’s networking solutions, the resort now enjoys improved network reliability and easy network management. Its VLAN (Virtual Local Area Network) segmentation and the consolidation of the three previous physical networks into one provides for greater efficiency in the IT department. The ProCurve gigabit-speed network was implemented within one month without any glitches.
“ProCurve’s networking products have been performing as it should from day one, fulfilling our objectives. We see a potential to get more performance out of the network as we work with ProCurve on further configuration and optimization,” said Ho Cheng Soon, IT Manager of Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang Resort and Spa.
The reliability and cost-effectiveness of the ProCurve networking devices were major factors in the selection process, along with ProCurve’s lifetime warranty*.
“ProCurve’s lifetime warranty is a valuable advantage in containing the cost of investment and network maintenance for the resort,” said Ho.
Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang Resort and Spa installed two ProCurve core switches: 5400 Series and 5300 Series with Wireless Edge Module, while 24 ProCurve 2600 Series switches were deployed at the network edge and 12 Radio Ports were installed for wireless coverage. ProCurve’s thin AP (Access Point) technology ensured robust wireless connections.
“ProCurve’s lifetime warranty is a testament to the unparalleled reliability of ProCurve’s products,” said Soo Kean Thai, ProCurve Networking Sales Manager for Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand.
ProCurve’s solutions are available through an extensive network of channel partners across most cities in Malaysia.
