MAXIS COLLABORATES WITH ASTRO IN MAKING ’RM1,000,000 MONEY DROP’ GAME SHOW AVAILABLE ON THE WEB


Maxis customers stand a chance to win the Grand Prize of a Toyota Vios and attractive weekly prizes 
Partnership between Maxis and Astro is the first of its kind between a telco and a TV broadcaster for a game show
The ‘1,000,000 Money Drop’ is the first interactive online game that can be played simultaneously with a live TV programme

Kuala Lumpur, 23 November 2012. Malaysia’s leading integrated communications service provider, Maxis Berhad (Maxis), is pleased to introduce the ‘RM1,000,000 Money Drop’ web-based game exclusively to its customers, in which contestants answer a series of multiple choice questions for the chance to win the Grand Prize of a Toyota Vios as well as attractive weekly prizes.

The ‘RM1,000,000 Money Drop’ game is a collaboration between Maxis and Astro and is based on the TV game show of the same name which currently airs on Astro Ria, Channel 104 and Astro Mustika HD, Channel 134.

Kugan, Maxis’ Head of Product, Device, Innovation & Roaming, said, “At Maxis, we are always looking beyond offering our customers traditional mobile services and are eager to extend new experiences across other platforms, including the web. We are excited to be collaborating with Astro in bringing the ’RM1,000,000 Money Drop’ web game exclusively to our customers via their smartphones, tablets, laptops or PCs, which also marks the first partnership of its kind between a telco and a TV broadcaster for a game show.”

Customers can play ‘RM1,000,000 Money Drop’ via the Stand Alone web game, which will be available until 15 March 2013. To take part, all customers need to do is visit moneydrop.mlp.my and register for an account. Once they have registered, they will need to purchase the game credits by sending ‘MD’ to 26999 via SMS. Contestants will be required to pay RM1.50 for six game credits to play six games and each game consists of a series of eight questions. Customers also have the option to re-register and top up their game credit after they have completed their six games.

Customers can also have fun with the ‘RM1,000,000 Money Drop’ game via the Play Along web game, where they can play the game simultaneously with the game show as it is being aired live on TV. This simultaneous method is the first of its kind in Malaysia. Aside from the web, the Play Along game can also be played on iOS devices such as the iPhone and the iPad.

Both versions of the ‘RM1,000,000 Money Drop’ game, which is conducted in Bahasa Malaysia, is open to customers aged 18 years old and above.
