Samsung wins Malaysia’s Industry Excellence Award

Samsung’s global leadership in LCD displays – TVs and monitors – has been given a shot in the arm with Samsung Electronics Display (M) Sdn Bhd (SDMA) winning the Industry Excellence Awards 2008’s Quality Management Excellence Award.

SDMA, a fully integrated and automated manufacturing facility of LCD monitors, LCD and plasma TVs at Seremban’s Tuanku Jaafar Industrial Park, won the coveted award in recognition by the Malaysian government for its exceptional achievements in top management leadership, customer focus and HR management.

SDMA Vice President Oh Joon Ho said: “It is a great honour and privilege to win this prestigious award. Samsung’s success as a leading TV and monitor manufacturer is a reflection of our ongoing commitment to developing technology and displays that go beyond current expectations of value, innovation and quality.”

Malaysia, he added, is a strategic base for Samsung as it has continued to make inroads as one of the top manufacturers of flat panel displays. To date, SDMA, which was set up in 1995, has produced over 50 million TVs and monitors for the domestic and export markets.

“Our success in Malaysia also has a lot to do with the integration of quality management principles and Samsung’s Six Sigma methodology into our critical business processes and decision-making practices,” said Mr Oh.

“Our stringent quality control standards require all suppliers, partners and contractors to adhere to our established quality requirements, conforming with the ISO and OHSAS standards, and other relevant regulations.”

Mr Oh also said Samsung is fully committed to the green initiatives, adding environmental preservation begins with the product’s design and all materials used in the energy-efficient displays are free from hazardous substances.

SDMA, he added, has embarked on the reduce, reuse and recycle (3Rs) programme, using engineering means to enhance efficiency, reduce wastage and ensure operation safety.

The community is also given equal attention vis-à-vis corporate social responsibility initiatives for public welfare activities, education, cultural and arts appreciation, and sports.

Apart from its global dominance of TV and monitor sales, Samsung has led the evolution in innovation within the display industry with new applications for LCD products, including large format digital information displays, personal multimedia players and ultra mobile PCs.

Samsung TVs and monitors are highly recognized for their innovative technology and attractive designs, winning numerous awards including the 2008 International Design Excellence (IDEA), PC World, PC.com and CNET.
