Ethertronics’ EtherBook 1.0™ Connects a New Line of Ultrabooks with Global 3G and 4G (LTE) Coverage

Company’s Active Antenna Systems Continue to Enable Industry Leading Performance in the Sleekest of Wireless Device Designs

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – July 29, 2013 – Ethertronics, a leading technology company enabling innovative antenna and RF Front End system solutions to deliver the best connected experience, today announced that its award-winning EtherBook 1.0™ has been integrated into a new line of ultrabooks, enabling global 3G and 4G (LTE) coverage. Available from a tier one global notebook manufacturer, the new line of ultrabooks utilizes Ethertronics’ EtherBook 1.0, which is the most compact active antenna system that can be integrated inside ultra slim LTE enabled notebooks to support frequencies ranging from 700 to 2700MHz for global operation with a single SKU, without any performance degradation

EtherBook 1.0 leverages Ethertronics’ patented active band switching techniques, which meet LTE’s multiple band coverage challenges from the low 700MHz to 2.7GHz without compromising performance for the user. This is also critical for operators needing to aggregate the spectrum across multiple bands or make the most use of their spectrum holdings to increase the data rate to provide an enhanced user experience. Additionally, band switching techniques allow the smallest physical volume antenna systems to fit in the thinnest consumer devices. Given the limited space available in the display bezel, traditional passive antennas can’t support multiple bands with the required efficiency and suffer from roll off at the band edges leading to compromised performance.

In the case of the new ultrabooks, which feature the ability to easily transition between a tablet and laptop form factor, EtherBook 1.0’s compact size – at just 87mm x 10mm x 1.75mm – enabled the active antenna system to be integrated into the ultrabook’s sleek, ultra-thin display.

“One of the biggest challenges that OEMs and Operators face with 3G/4G devices are their ability to operate across the wide range of spectrum holdings from 700 to 2700MHz as well as a single SKU for global coverage while also delivering the highest performance, coverage, and efficiency levels in the sleekest of designs,” said John Chu, General Manager Taiwan at Ethertronics. “The integration of our EtherBook 1.0 into this new line of ultrabooks is a testament to the active antenna system’s ability to meet these challenges by providing a compact Antenna Front End solution that doesn’t compromise performance or efficiency.”

Kuala Lumpur – 11 June 2013 –WD®, a Western Digital (NASDAQ: WDC) company, announced at COMPUTEX TAIPEI 2013 it is shipping the world’s thinnest 1 TB hard drive with its new 2.5-inch WD Blue™ 7 mm hard drive. Offering OEMs, channel integrators and consumers a unique storage solution for thin and light systems, slimmer notebooks, as well as compatibility with the industry-standard 9.5 mm drive slots of mainstream notebooks, the WD Blue hard drive family, in capacities from 320 GB to 1 TB in the 7 mm height, now provides a singular option of thin design and high capacity storage.

"Users with large portfolios of content no longer need to sacrifice capacity when buying an Ultrabook or upgrading to a thin and light notebook," said Matt Rutledge, Vice President and General Manager for client storage products at WD. "This most compact 1TB hard drive to-date offers manufacturers of systems an upsell path for their customers who will now be able to choose systems offering both sleek design and high capacity.

“Intel is introducing its fourth-generation Intel Core processor family (codenamed Haswell) to deliver faster and more efficient performance to both desktop and notebook platforms, with significant gains benefitting portable systems” said Roger Bradford, Capabilities Marketing Manager at Intel. “The release of the WD Blue 7 mm hard drives offers a new level of storage capacity that further enriches the computing experience for users of Ultrabooks, All-in-Ones and other thin and light PCs.”

“With the release of WD’s 1 TB capacity in a 7 mm drive height, Acer customers now have the best of both options and no longer have to choose between the lightness of thin, sleekly designed systems or those with high capacity storage,” said Tiffany Huang, President, PC Global Operations at Acer Incorporated.

“As ASUS develops new super-slim solutions, reliable storage options such as the WD Blue 7 mm 1 TB hard drive provide us with an ideal capacity to offer our customers,” said S.Y. Shian, Corporate Vice President and General Manager of NB Business Unit at Asus. “WD has eliminated the capacity limits heretofore endured by thin and light personal computers while keeping the reliability and data-protection of a traditional hard drive.”

Features of the WD Blue 7 mm hard drives include:
Shock Tolerance – WD’s ShockGuard™ technology protects the drive mechanics and platter surfaces from shocks.
Cool and quiet - WD’s exclusive WhisperDrive™ technology enables quiet performance.
StableTrac™ – The motor shaft is secured at both ends to compensate for system-induced vibration and stabilize platters for accurate tracking during read and write operations which enables consistently higher performance.
Dual Stage Actuators – Leveraged from enterprise-class drives, dual stage actuators utilize two actuators to improve positional accuracy over the data track(s). The primary actuator provides coarse displacement using conventional electromagnetic actuator principles. The secondary actuator uses piezoelectric motion to fine tune the head positioning to a higher degree of accuracy.
Reliable – WD’s SecurePark™ parks the recording heads off the disk surface during spin up, spin down, and when the drive is off. This ensures the recording head never touches the disk surface resulting in improved long term reliability due to less head wear, and improved non-operational shock tolerance.
Compatibility Tested - WD performs tests on hundreds of systems and a multitude of platforms in its FIT Lab™ and Mobile Compatibility Lab to give customers confidence that drives will work in specific systems.

Next Wave of Ultrabook Devices Now Available with 3rd Generation Intel Core Processors

Industry Players Come Together to Deliver on Vision of No-Compromise Computing Experience

KUALA LUMPUR, June 21, 2012 – Intel Malaysia today unveiled the next wave of Ultrabook™ systems powered by new 3rd generation Intel® Core™ processors. This wave of Ultrabook devices brings Intel Corporation one step closer to delivering on the industry wide, multi-year endeavor to deliver a no-compromise, must-have computing experience. The innovation will continue in the coming years as Intel and its industry partners aim to raise the bar for personal computing experiences, evolving to more natural and intuitive interactions.

Leveraging the 3rd generation Intel® Core™ processors which are made with the world’s most advanced 22nm 3-D tri-gate transistor manufacturing technology, these new Ultrabook devices are even more responsive and more secure to better protect personal information. These new chips have also been designed to offer increased media and graphics performance, and longer battery life.Prakash Mallya, Country Manager, Sales and Marketing, Intel Malaysia holding up and spinning an Ultrabook

“Similar to the introduction of Intel® Centrino® nearly a decade ago, this is a time of revolutionary change in personal computing,” said Prakash Mallya, Country Manager of Sales and Marketing, Intel Malaysia. “More Ultrabooks will be introduced in the next 12 months as compared with the previous. This also includes new business, touch, and convertible designs. At the same time, we’ve continuously improved on security and responsiveness. With these new 3rd generation Intel Core-based Ultrabook devices, mobile computing as we know it today will suddenly seem old fashioned.”(Left to Right) 1. David McCloskey, Director of Operations, Asia Pacific, Intel Corp. 4. Prakash Mallya, Country Manager, Sales and Marketing, Intel Malaysia 5. Kamil Hasan, Director of Reseller Channel Organization, Asia Pacific, Intel Corp 6. Chris Kelly, Director of Intel Architecture Group, Intel Malaysia 7. Thomas Soo, General Manager of Penang Assembly and Test, Intel Malaysia

Superior Experiences: Responsive, Stylish, Protected and Mobile
This new wave of Ultrabook devices will wake in a flash, meaning the system will transition from deep sleep (S4 mode) to its active state in less than 7 seconds. Additionally, all Ultrabook devices are now required to be “responsive while active” in that they will load and run users’ favorite apps quickly .

Connecting at blazing speeds is also now possible with the addition of USB 3.0, Thunderbolt™ technology or both. Thunderbolt technology is a high-speed connection that allows incredibly fast transfers. For example, a full-length HD movie can be transferred to an Ultrabook in less than 30 seconds .

Taking into account that security has become an important criteria for consumers, the next wave of Ultrabook systems is equipped with enhanced security features. This includes the Intel® Anti-Theft technology that lets people automatically disable the system if it is lost or stolen .

Better Performance at Lower Power Levels
Taking advantage of the company’s innovative 22nm tri-gate transistor manufacturing technology, Intel engineers have delivered significant improvements in performance for 3rd generation Intel® Core™ processors with up to 22 percent faster performance on multithreaded applications compared to 2nd generation Intel® Core™ processors. For example, experiences when using photo editing software or many games will significantly improve based on the new processors.

The new Ultrabooks have up to twice the video processing and 3-D graphics performance of the prior generation, cutting a user’s video processing time in half and making for a smoother, richer visual experience.

When comparing the graphics and video processing improvements versus a 3 year-old Intel® Core™ 2 Duo-based laptop, there is an up to 30 times improvement in video processing and up to a 19 times improvement in 3-D graphics.

Industry Delivers on No-Compromise Experiences
Conceived by Intel just over a year ago, the Ultrabook category was quickly embraced by the industry. More than 20 systems have been introduced since October 2011, and today momentum is growing with more than 110 3rd generation Intel Core processor-based Ultrabook devices under development.

Intel believes touch capabilities will fuel the industry to innovate and experiment with the style and design of future clamshell and Ultrabook convertible systems. This innovative design, which behaves like a laptop when users need to “create” and acts like a tablet when users want to “consume,” provides people the ultimate flexibility to work smart and play harder. Intel anticipates that around 30 touch-enabled systems, including 10 convertibles, could become available later this year, with the number increasing over time.

Intel is working across a broad cross-section of the industry to accelerate and enable thin and light designs. A recent and significant breakthrough in chassis design using existing materials and standard injection molding equipment will enable an Ultrabook chassis that is equivalent in quality to machined aluminum and die-cast metal solutions in the market today. Borrowing engineering approaches from the automotive and aerospace industries, the new chassis design has the potential to reduce chassis costs by up to 65 percent and is expected to be in market next year.

The introduction of 3rd Gen Intel Core also brings with it significant change to the business world with Intel® Core™ vPro™ and Intel® Small Business Advantage-enabled Ultrabook devices. The next-generation Intel vPro processor platform gives both the business user and IT managers what they want most: security paired with stylish designs, easy automation and new compute models that are both flexible and secure.

Intel Tantalizes Consumers with ‘Ultrabook Temptations’

Six Experiments Filmed in Four Cities, Three Countries

KUALA LUMPUR, March 16, 2012 – What would you do for an Ultrabook™ computer? That’s the question Intel Corporation asks in Ultrabook™ Temptations, a series of six light-hearted experiments filmed in four cities across three countries and posted to YouTube today.

Sleek and stylish, Ultrabooks are a new category of computers inspired by Intel. They are the next generation of mobile computing -- thinner, lighter and more responsive than traditional laptops, yet just as powerful and secure.

“People are drawn to Ultrabooks. When you see one, you just want one,” said Claudine Pache, digital marketing manager for Intel Australia and New Zealand. “We created the ‘Ultrabook Temptations’ to see just how far people would go to get their hands on one.”

The six experiments, filmed in Australia, Indonesia and Thailand, set out to explore the depth of human emotions that surround these objects of desire. The experiments were “temptations” for consumers, encouraging them to go a little beyond their everyday comfort zone to earn the chance to become the proud owner of a sleek Ultrabook. The experiments were filmed spontaneously in an effort to introduce Ultrabooks and are available for viewing by an online audience.

In ”Daring Temptation” for example, an Ultrabook is installed in a display case near a busy area with the simple instruction to “Smash Glass to Win Ultrabook” and a small hammer. Would commuters prove daring enough to smash the glass in public and claim the prize?

According to Jayant Murty, Intel’s Asia Pacific director of brand strategy and integrated marketing, “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Sometimes product stories are best told through the eyes of our prospective consumers. We hope that seeing the videos will stir up enough interest to go look for Ultrabooks at your nearest computer store.”

The first Ultrabooks -- from brands* such as Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo, LG, Samsung and Toshiba -- are in stores now. By the end of the year, Intel expects more than 75 designs in market and that Ultrabooks will become mainstream devices.

ICT Remains Prominent as Malaysia Continues to Intertwine Traditional Economies with Technology, says IDC

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, February 9, 2012 – Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has been earmarked as a key enabler for traditional economies in Malaysia since 1996. As the nation moves towards an intelligent economy, International Data Corporation (IDC) notes that key transformative steps are being taken by the government and 2012 will witness the emergence of disruptive IT technologies becoming mainstream and playing a critical role in the development of Malaysia.

Sudev Bangah, Senior Research Manager, IDC Asia/Pacific says, "ICT still presents itself as a compelling platform for many Malaysian enterprises wanting to pursue a potential cost-beneficial delivery model of products and services. The smokescreen on the exact role ICT will play in the future of the Malaysian economy will blow-over in 2012, and IDC expects pockets of opportunities to emerge for both local and foreign organizations and this will shape the future of ICT.”

Malaysia's economic growth is expected to remain cautiously optimistic, with IT spending forecasted to reach US$8.2 billion at the end of 2012, representing a year-on-year (YoY) growth of 10.1%. Bangah cautions, "2012 has been heralded as a year of opportunity as well as uncertainty, causing many businesses to remain vigilant about the ever evolving landscape. While domestic consumption is expected to grow and foreign investments are poised to continue, this could change in a blink if the right chest pieces are not reserved for future movements."

Drawing from the latest IDC research and internal brainstorming sessions amongst IDC's regional and country analysts, the following are the top 10 key ICT predictions in 2012 for Malaysia. These trends are what IDC believes will have the biggest commercial impact on the Malaysian ICT market.

1. From Key Enabler to Key Innovator: The Rise of ICT Prominence in Traditional Sectors
Today, CIOs are given more autonomy in making IT decisions that enable their businesses. With that, IDC is witnessing more organizations positioning IT spending for long-term strategic growth and value. In 2012, IDC predicts that traditional sectors will strategically utilize IT as a way to reach out to a wider target market by intensifying competition and expanding geographically.

2. Cloud Computing: The End of a Buzzword
The continuous interest in Cloud Computing from both end-users and vendors will cause a shift towards further exploration and understanding of the platform's value proposition. Public cloud will remain a more popular choice for a market like Malaysia due to the high composition of SMBs within the market. Of late, understanding of the technology has drastically improved and targeted effort by the Malaysian government will see key concerns addressed in the coming year.

3. Smart Devices to Drive the Rise of Mobile Commerce
The advent of the mobility concept and the affordability of devices have changed the manner in which Malaysian consumers utilize ICT. The introduction of smart mobile devices coupled with the bundling of data plans by service providers with these devices have caused a surge in smartphone adoption across Malaysia. IDC predicts that mobile commerce applications will gain ground in 2012.

4. Ultrabooks to Breathe New Life into PC Market
When the iPad hit the Malaysian market in 2010, there was a pandemonium; the iPad created a buying frenzy among consumers and the tablet was sold out within a few hours. Today, the market is flooded with a variety of tablets from various brands, and analysts and consumers alike are predicting that the demise of the PC is on the horizon. With consumer demand for PCs stifled by the abundance of alternatives as well as lack of innovation, PC vendors are searching for ideas to revive their business. In 2012, IDC expects the Ultrabook to fill the void between the full-size laptop and the tablet and the product is expected to boost sales in the consumer market which has not seen many truly innovative products over the past year.

5. Customer Centricity to Drive Socialytics
With the reality of a potential financial crisis affecting the world economy in the next 12 to 18 months, organizations across Asia/Pacific are expected to adopt a cautious and discerning approach towards IT investments in 2012. As customer centricity is seen as the top business agenda, there will be a strong focus on technologies that will aid enterprises in heightening customer focus and customer engagement, and acquiring knowledge of customers who contribute most to their businesses.

6. Low-End Smartphones to Cause a Flood of Data Usage
Malaysians are obsessed with smart devices, and smartphones are no exception. The launch of new models is usually greeted with grand fanfare. As the demand for smartphones in the country approaches fever pitch, lower-end smartphones have begun to make its way into the market. These phones provide cheaper alternatives to the high-end smartphones that have been flooding the market over the past three years.

7. Development of Content Takes Center Stage
The continuous proliferation of smart devices in Malaysia has reignited the push for the development of mobile device applications. The government is working towards the creation of a poll of talent equipped with adequate knowledge in developing innovative and creative content for eventual global monetization. The government, via several government agencies, has embarked on a concerted effort to groom local applications developers by equipping these individuals with the skills and means to create "world-class" content, fit for both domestic and international consumption.

8. Cost Reduction Remains Top of Mind for SMBs and Enterprises
In spite of the relatively positive view on ICT spending for 2012, results of IDC's recent Asia/Pacific CIO Barometer survey reveals that majority of enterprises in ASEAN will still be cost conscious when pursuing their business strategies in 2012. While majority of CIOs cited increased ICT spending for 2012 in areas of on-demand services, mobility and social media tools, focus is still placed on how enterprises can reduce their overall cost structure within the organization. Although CFOs have lightened their scrutiny on IT spending in recent years, they are still more watchful as compared to pre-crisis when ubiquitous spending on IT infrastructure was seen.

9. Talent Quest: Adequately Addressing the Talent Issue
IDC predicts that 2012 is the year the IT Services industry in Malaysia will hit a tipping point and the government must adequately address the local talent supply and demand issue. IDC expects a high demand for jobs requiring highly skilled and certified professionals to drive the IT services market in the coming year. The rising demand for tech talent in Malaysia is further accentuated by the announcement of global multinationals building their regional facilities in the country.

10. Digital Malaysia: Solidifying an Innovative Economy
2011 represented a new chapter for the country as IT started to play a significant role within the nation's economy as well as the betterment of the society. 15 years ago, the MSC Malaysia concept was introduced as a manner to encourage and support the development and adoption of ICT within the country. In line with the ripple created by MSC Malaysia within the economy, significant measures have been taken by the government via the Economic Transformation Plan (ETP) to ensure ICT remains a significant tool for the future development of the country.
