Microsoft Partners with SME Corp To Transform Malaysian SMEs With Cloud Computing Technology

Microsoft could reinvest up to RM20.8 million through SME Corp for the first year, for SMEs to compete and succeed in the future with Office 365

Kuala Lumpur – December 5, 2011 – Microsoft Malaysia (“Microsoft”) and SME Corporation Malaysia (“SME Corp”) announced a landmark partnership agreement to transform Malaysian small and medium enterprises (“SME”) with cloud computing technology through its Office 365 productivity suite. Microsoft is to reinvest US$13 per Office 365 seat, which could see an expected investment by Microsoft of up to RM20.8 million (US$6.5 million; US$1=RM3.20) for the first year alone, if it is adopted by 50,000 SMEs in the country.

The partnership, announced at the Make “IT” Work For Your Business event held at SME Corp’s headquarters this morning, was hailed as a significant achievement and an excellent example of a private-public partnership that moves forward the agenda towards achieving the government’s SME Masterplan. The objective of the partnership is to empower Malaysian SMEs with the tools they need to succeed in global, interconnected business landscape where agile and scalable technology infrastructures is key to maintaining the competitive edge.

“If Malaysian SMEs are to succeed in growing to contribute 41% of GDP by 2020, then it is essential that they use ICT to raise efficiencies and innovate the ways in which they work,” Y. Bhg. Dato’ Hafsah Hashim, CEO, SME Corp. “SME Corp and Microsoft are together actively reaching out to Malaysian SMEs to help them adopt and use one of the world’s best cloud solutions to drive both creativity and productivity in their businesses.”

“The opportunity for transforming the way Malaysia does business is enormous. 99.2% of businesses in Malaysia are SMEs, which presently employs 56% of the Malaysian workforce and generates 32% of the national GDP. In fact, SMEs in Malaysia will benefit from using Office 365, and I encourage everyone to visit our website and find out for themselves how SME Corp. Malaysia and Microsoft can help you transform their business,” Y. Bhg Dato’ Hafsah said.

Dato’ Hafsah continued, “In fact, it is our intention to start by reaching at least 50,000 SMEs in Malaysia to leverage the power of cloud computing through Office 365 for the first year. I am also very pleased to note that Microsoft has committed to reinvesting up to RM20.8 million in the first year alone to help these SMEs transform their businesses through Office 365.”

According to Ananth Lazarus, Managing Director, Microsoft Malaysia, “Microsoft, as a world leader in cloud solutions for SMEs, is committed to helping Malaysian SMEs unlock the power of the cloud and transform their businesses. This is a commitment that we have built into our national plan at Microsoft Malaysia to support the country’s aspirations and realize transformation together; whether it is for individuals, businesses or education. It is a commitment that is certainly also in line with YAB Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak’s administration’s commitment to bring SMEs to the fore as a major contributor to Malaysia’s GDP.”

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak had recently declared that SME development was vital because 99 percent of businesses in the country were contributed by the sector and that positive, bold steps were needed to ensure the sector continue to grow in tandem with developed countries.

Ananth continued, “So, when we first launched Office 365 in July this year, we announced that we would work immediately embark on concrete steps to collaborate with a government agency such as SME Corp to transform businesses with cloud computing technology and to ensure that such an initiative became a reality as quickly as possible. It is indeed a pleasure to announce that less than 6 months later, we have a strong and concrete program together with SME Corp to empower Malaysian SMEs and give them the tools they need to advance the skills of their workforce, connect with partners and customers and communicate across their business network.”

The partnership will allow Malaysian SMEs to realise business and competitive advantage through using Microsoft Office 365 to create, edit, store and share their ideas and work in the cloud. Using Office 365 also gives an additional benefit to Malaysian SMEs by raising their SCORE (“SME Competitiveness Rating for Enhancement”) rating through improved Management Capabilities and Technical Capabilities – two of the seven petals used to evaluate their businesses. A better SCORE rating allows these SMEs to participate in further exclusive programs and activities organised by SME Corp as well as other government agencies.

The Office 365 Package offered to SMB Corp’s clients combines the power of Office Web apps with enterprise-grade e-mail, shared documents, instant messaging, video and web conferencing (Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, and Lync Online) in an always-up-to-date cloud service that is backed by Microsoft, for only USD6 (~RM19) per user per month. “As a matter of fact, for less than the price of a teh tarik a day, Office 365 allows SMEs to do what they do best – which is to drive and manage their business, while leaving their IT infrastructure management to our expertise,” explained Ananth.

On top of that, Microsoft will also work with SME Corp to conduct various training programmes as well as provide an SME Helpdesk at SME Corp’s headquarters to assist SMEs in using Office 365. Microsoft is further providing the first 200 SMEs that sign up for Office 365 through SME Corp with a Quick Start Activation Package to help them apply and benefit from the technology as quickly as possible.

“There is no better time than now for Malaysian SMEs to transform the way they do business! The confluence of increasing high speed broadband penetration in Malaysia; the support and encouragement of the Government; as well as the ready availability of simple, convenient and cost-effective solutions like Office 365; have all brought about an opportune time for SMEs to get on board with cloud computing technology,” declared Ananth.

“With Office 365, businesses of all sizes get the best productivity and collaboration solutions on the planet for a predictable monthly cost, and their employees get new ways to work together with ease, on virtually any device, and they can still use familiar application suites, like Microsoft Office, which they already know and love,” concluded Ananth.

At the same event, Microsoft also announced a training partnership with Peniagawati (“Association of Bumiputera Women Entrepreneurs and Professionals of Malaysia”), which was among the groups that participated in the Make “IT” Work for Your Business event. Microsoft will work with Peniagawati to drive the development of ICT and cloud computing skills and knowledge to entrepreneurs through training in Office 365.

“If our partnership with SME Corp can be understood as our commitment to empowering SMEs with cutting-edge cloud computing technology, this grant takes our commitment one step further by empowering the SME workforce with the knowledge on how best to leverage such technology,” explained Ananth.

Put Active Citizen Engagement on 2012 Agenda, says IDC Government Insights

Kuala Lumpur – December 5, 2011 -- Citizens today are actively seeking engagements on social networks with brands, products and companies and they are looking to engage with government representatives in a similar fashion. However, many governments across Asia/Pacific are delaying online interaction with their citizens until protective policies for security guidelines are defined. More insights are revealed in an IDC Government Insights report, “Asia/Pacific Government Insights 2012 Top 10 Predictions (Doc # AP9694111T)”, which presents IDC Government Insights’ key predictions for the government sector across Asia/Pacific.

"While keeping all senses tuned to maintain awareness of security risks until regulations and policies are finalized is good, online citizen interaction will prove critical to meet the increasing demand by citizens to address their needs and concerns 24/7. Ignoring their calls for interaction may not be wise in a long-run", says Frank Levering, Research Manager, IDC Government Insights Asia/Pacific.

Across IDC Government Insights’ key predictions for the government sector across Asia/Pacific, some key themes stand out. IDC Government Insights expects IT security to be commoditized in 2012 and any discussion with government entities about ICT solutions needs to have an elaborate security component. Ironically, both vendors and government representatives are unlikely to be fully prepared or equipped to have that conversation.

Cloud infrastructure and platform decisions will also get well on the way among the mature countries. Developing nations, on the other hand, will look to cloud solutions to scale up their ICT offerings quickly.

Finally, Asia/Pacific has seen its fair share of natural disasters recently. Consequently, IDC Government Insights expects smart city initiatives to benefit from renewed government focus to limit the impact of disasters and manage the after-effects.

Drawing from the latest research and internal brainstorming sessions amongst IDC's Government Insights regional and country analysts, the following are the top 10 Predictions to assist government decision makers and their suppliers in 2012 for the Asia/Pacific region.
1. Information security will be a critical component in government purchases
2. Proactive interaction by governments with citizens through popular social media will change from novelty to necessity
3. Government spending and investments will not be significantly affected by economic struggles in the US and Europe
4. Mature governments will significantly invest in Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) to prepare for the Cloud era
5. Governments will closely monitor the cloud best practices among public sectors worldwide to define their own cloud deployment roadmap in their respective countries
6. Software as a Service (SaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS) will see strong mixed adoption between the public and private sector
7. Government apps will morph from one-way information-centric delivery mechanisms to two-way inseparable services and interaction tools for citizens
8. National broadband initiatives will evolve the education sector. Tablets will revolutionize how education is conducted
9. Bring Your Own Device trends will radically change the traditional function of IT and device management in governments
10. New funds will be allocated by governments to prepare city infrastructures for natural disasters and the influx of people from urban areas

Fortinet’s Online Shopping Tips for a Safe Cyber-Holiday Season

MALAYSIA, 5 December 2011 - Only 26 days left until the end of the year and despite the current economic environment, no question to avoid the festive gifts! Malaysian consumers will again go through their shopping list and are expected to shop massively online since the Web is seen as a way of buying cheap. This year, 2 out of 3 Web users in Malaysia will purchase their festive holiday gifts on the Internet*. So, now is a good time to remind a few basic online shopping safety tips that could prevent your computer from becoming infected and/or your banking details from being stolen.

1. Beware of scams and unsolicited offers: The festive year-end holiday shopping season is undoubtedly the best time to be tempted by spam emails offering fantastic deals such as: “Great Deal on iPads… 50% off!”. Be careful! The advertised website could be malicious, and download malware to your computer. Or it could be a mere scam, meaning you would never receive what you ordered! Follow the old saying: if an offer is too good to be true, it probably isn't. Especially if you didn't solicit it in the first place...

2. Do not trust the search engine results: Search Engine Optimization (SEO) attacks are a way for cybercriminals to game a search engine’s ranking algorithm in order to push websites to the top of keyword search lists. Take note that terms such as “Holiday Sale,” “Christmas bargains,” “Chinese New Year” or “Year End Specials” found on search engines could immediately compromised your computer if you click on the links.

So, exercise caution before rushing to a website returned by a search engine upon feeding it with typical X-mas key words – it could be malicious. If in doubt, prefer well-known, trusted online shops.

3. Emails can turn your best friends into your worst enemies: If you receive an email from one of your friends saying “Hey, check out the holiday sale going on here!” or “This place has a 50% off Christmas sale!” Be careful! Her/his computer is perhaps unknowingly infected by malware programmed to comb through email address books and send malicious links to everyone in them. By clicking on the link you could be taken to a malicious Website that phishes or installs malware on your system, such as Trojans, bots, keyloggers and rootkits, which are designed to harm systems and steal your personal information.

Here again, use some common sense. Does your friend normally update you on when sales and/or bargains abound? If not, delete the email and inform your friend that her/his computer might be compromised.

4. Beware of Wi-Fi hotspots: If you decide to take advantage of some free time at the airport, in a coffee shop or in your hotel to surf for online shopping via your smartphone or tablet, beware of connecting to an unknown hotspot! Such hotspot is unsecure and allows hackers to capture any and all data that’s flowing to and from the hotspot, enabling them to steal personal and confidential information (logins, passwords, email messages, attached documents) stored on your mobile device.

So, prefer locations that offer secure wired or Wi-Fi connections. Also, before entering your credit card details on websites, check that the URL for the page begins with "https://" and not "http://." That "s" indicates that your connection is encrypted end-to-end, and cannot be eavesdropped on.

Smart Grid Momentum in Asia Intensifies in 2012 While Funding Challenges Remain, says IDC Energy Insights

Kuala Lumpur, December 3, 2011 – Smart grid implementations in Asia/Pacific, both pilots as well as large rollouts, will gain momentum in 2012 as Asian utilities continue to explore ways to improve energy efficiency, sustainability, as well as energy security. However, particularly in competitive markets, they will face challenges to secure funding as government support dries up. More insights will be revealed in a forthcoming IDC Energy Insights report, "Asia/Pacific Utility Industry 2012 Top 10 Predictions", which presents the utility industry trends, challenges and opportunities across Asia/Pacific in 2012 and beyond.

"With large investments needed to make smart grids work and with a payback period of no less than eight to 10 years in most cases, utilities need to explore new business models and articulate clear value propositions, and ensure that they deliver tangible benefits to the customers as well as their stakeholders in order to get access to funds," says Debashis Tarafdar, Head – Asia/Pacific, IDC Energy Insights Asia/Pacific.

Drawing from the latest research and internal brainstorming sessions amongst IDC's Energy Insights regional and country analysts, the following are the top 10 Predictions for utility organizations in 2012 across the Asia/Pacific region. These top 10 predictions represent major trends with either the most significant financial impact or long-term market impact across the Asia/Pacific region.

1. Smart grid momentum intensifies in Asia, but funding challenges will exist, in absence of sufficient government support
2. Smarter utilities will put customer-centricity at the center of their smart grid strategy. Analytics will grow in importance as utilities struggle to make effective use of smart meter data
3. Network and distribution automation will dominate grid-level investments
4. Renewable energy adoption continues, but it will be a disruptive challenge for utilities until utility-scale storage technologies mature
5. Maturity of regulatory frameworks will drive the adoption of energy efficiency and demand response programs
6. Pilots targeting Smart City projects will start to emerge that encompass broader environmental and sustainability issues
7. China smart grid roll out will accelerate in 2012 with focus on efficiency and visibility of energy consumption
8. Electric vehicle pilots will slowly convert into large scale rollouts with more participants, though challenges will exist in terms of infrastructure developments
9. Cloud computing adoption will be slow, though meter data management and customer portals have the potential to adopt cloud
10. IT Services will constitute the lion's share of utility IT spending
Lack of customer awareness about the benefits that smart grid and smart metering initiatives could potentially bring is another stumbling block for its rollout. Utilities need to adopt a customer-centric approach to help their customers understand how smart grid technologies can benefit them and reduce their overall cost of energy.
For the upcoming year, IDC Energy Insights advices utility organizations as well as solution providers to collaborate on the latest standards and technologies, create an incremental roadmap to smart grid rollouts, communicate effectively with the customers and stakeholders, and implement solutions that consider energy efficiency and security as key objectives to build a sustainable business model.

TM BIG WINNER AT PIKOM ICT LEADERSHIP AWARDS 2011 - CONTINUES TO RECEIVE INDUSTRY AND REGIONAL ACCOLADES

Kuala Lumpur 2 December 2011

Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM)’s transformation journey continues to receive external recognition when it was honoured as ICT Organisation of the Year at PIKOM’s 25th Anniversary Gala Dinner and ICT Leadership Awards 2011 held in Kuala Lumpur recently. At the same awards presentation ceremony, Dato' Sri Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa as Group Chief Executive Officer of TM, was also named the ICT Personality of the Year.

The awards were presented by YB Datuk Seri Panglima Dr. Maximus Johnity Ongkili, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation.
Datuk Seri Dr. Maximus Johnity Ongkili, Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation presenting Dato’ Sri Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa, Group Chief Executive Officer, TM, with one of the two awards clinched by Telekom Malaysia Berhad at PIKOM’s 25th Anniversary Gala Dinner and ICT Leadership Awards 2011, while Woon Tai Hai, PIKOM Chairman (left) and Shaifubahrim Saleh, PIKOM President (right), look on.

On receiving the awards, Dato’ Sri Zamzamzairani shared, “It is indeed an honour to be recognized as ICT Organisation of the Year and ICT Personality of the Year. These awards will motivate us to continuously improve our services and value proposition to our customers, as they further cement TM’s position as the leading integrated communications solutions provider in Malaysia, and also as the country's broadband champion. As such, TM reiterates our focus on stakeholder value creation in this highly competitive environment. This is also testament to our commitment to deliver an enhanced customer experience via continuous customer service quality improvements and innovations, whilst focusing on increased operational efficiency and productivity

“TM has embarked on a journey to transform from a legacy based network towards becoming an ‘Information Exchange’ where the Company continues being the catalyst for everyone to connect, communicate and collaborate towards an enriched and integrated digital lifestyle.

HSBB, and UniFi, are “game changers” in the way telecommunications service providers operate in the future. Infrastructure sharing, as already evident from our collaborations with industry players – is certainly the norm and TM believes this is ultimately for the benefit of Malaysian consumers as well as bringing the nation closer to its aspirations. True to our promise as a neutral and open service provider in creating a level playing field, we have thus far signed with three (3) service providers to provide HSBB wholesale services. In this day and age of multiple screens and devices, be it phones, tablets or TVs, consumers are now being entertained and are interacting with each other in a multitude of ways. The old paradigm of fixed versus mobile access is becoming increasingly irrelevant due to consumer behaviour, the lines are blurring and we need to provide content via multiple access and devices, thus the need to collaborate,” he added.

TM’s next step is to stack up the current services with innovative applications to provide an ever enriching customer experience be it with the consumer products and services or with the business/enterprise offering.

TM is leveraging on its infrastructure, collective expertise and reach to improve its footing in ICT and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) services for the business/enterprise segment via its ICT arm, VADS Berhad. The offering of new and innovative managed services such as Managed TelePresence and Cloud Computing services as well as the construction of the first TelePresence Exchange (TPX) in Malaysia may serve as the catalyst for local SMEs and Enterprises to go regional and global.

TM is also positioning itself to be the regional IP hub of choice by leveraging on its extensive global network infrastructure and assets to meet increasingly sophisticated demand of global carriers and enterprise customers. The Company recently entered into a collaboration to set up a massive distributed global server network that works together to intelligently place content closer to web users. With this, rich media content will be made available to users on demand, anytime, anywhere. This is in line with plans to expand its data centre footprint aimed at fulfilling the objective of positioning Malaysia as a world-class data centre hub.

Held as a celebration of PIKOM’s 25 years of existence in spearheading the ICT industry, the ICT Leadership Awards was conceptualized in year 2008 to honour individuals and companies that demonstrate ICT best practices in their industry, with the commitment and innovative business strategies required to advance in Malaysia and globally.

Prior to this, PIKOM has been organizing the PIKOM-Computimes ICT Awards since 1989 which later evolved to become PIKOM National ICT Awards to honour outstanding Malaysian ICT companies, products and individuals in the field of ICT for their contribution to the industry and society. In 2008, the awards have been merged with the MSC-APICTA Awards.

In 2007, TM’s ICT and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) arm, VADS Berhad was bestowed as the ICT Service Provider of the Year at PIKOM National ICT Awards 2007. The award was presented to an outstanding Malaysian ICT service provider that displayed strong financial performance and has rendered services above and beyond the expectations of the customer.

Founded in 1985, PIKOM, The National ICT Association of Malaysia was formed with the objective of creating an environment that is conducive to the health, prosperity and competitive nature of the ICT industry. Its membership comprises companies involved in a whole spectrum of ICT products and services. In line with this, PIKOM aims to be a catalyst for the growth of the ICT industry in Malaysia, thus positioning it to be the voice of the Malaysian ICT industry.

These two awards came almost immediately after TM’s sweep at the recent National Annual Corporate Report Awards (NACRA 2011) where TM bagged the Platinum Award for Overall Excellence category for its Annual Report while also bringing back four (4) other awards in various categories including Industry Excellence, Corporate Social Responsibility, Best Bahasa Malaysia version and Best Design.

TM also clinched "Best Wholesale Ethernet Service APAC 2011" awarded by Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) at the Carrier Ethernet Service Provider Awards APAC 2011 in Singapore. The award recognises TM’s excellence and leadership in developing Wholesale Ethernet Services in supporting the domestic carriers’ requirements in Malaysia within the Asia Pacific region including Japan, Australia and New Zealand. TM’s Network has received MEF certification earlier this year - the second in South East Asia. This MEF recognition goes beyond the wholesale aspect, and is also a statement to the quality of TM’s Metro E infrastructure, which supports all its services, including retail.

In addition, Rozalila Abdul Rahman as the Chief Marketing Officer of TM was also bestowed the inaugural Malaysian Women Marketeer Award along with three other winners by the Institute of Marketing Malaysia (IMM) and the World Marketing Association. The award recognises the performance and contribution of women marketers to the development and success of the marketing industry in Malaysia.

Asia's Insurers to Focus on Customer Experience in 2012; IDC Financial Insights predicts Data Integration and Analytics Projects to be on the Rise

Kuala Lumpur – December 2, 2011 – Insurers are facing increasingly savvy, demanding and capricious customers. IDC Financial Insights predicts that to better manage client relationships in 2012, insurers in Asia/Pacific will be thinking more strategically about organizing, synchronizing and consolidating disparate customer information to create a "single version of the truth". They will also be making investments in analytics to gain deeper insights into their policyholders and to tailor-make more appropriate products and customer experiences.

More findings are revealed in a forthcoming IDC Financial Insights report, “Asia/Pacific Insurance 2012 Top 10 Predictions: Strategic Initiatives for Insurers to Carpe Diem”, which delineates IDC Financial Insights' predictions on 10 core business, operational, and technology strategic initiatives required for insurers to seize the day.

"As the very real possibility of another global downturn casts a pall over Asia/Pacific's insurance sector, we see even greater urgency for players to forge ahead with a dynamic and lean business framework supported by the smart utilization of technology," remarks Li-May Chew, CFA, Associate Research Director for IDC Financial Insights Asia/Pacific.

"Strategic initiatives that will enable insurers to carpe diem, or make the most out of the current situation as we venture guardedly into 2012 include: focusing on data integration and analysis to boost customer experiences, innovating and delivering on a multichannel model, demonstrating proactive risk stewardship in light of escalating regulatory and compliance requirements, optimizing on business transformation initiatives, and raising productivity and allegiance of the agency force," states Chew.

She adds, "Insurers will also be deeply engrossed in countering fraudulent activities, working on enhancing core insurance applications, and diversifying into ancillary lines of businesses. Meanwhile, we predict technology spending to grow 5-10% in 2012. In countries where regulations do not restrict its use, some of this spending would be channeled into cost-effective technology architectures such as cloud computing."

Table 1 presents three of IDC Financial Insights Asia/Pacific's top 10 insurance predictions for 2012, listed by order of importance. This list incorporates opinions formulated from ongoing research, survey, and conversations with industry practitioners and technology vendors serving the insurance community. It also takes into consideration findings from a 3Q2011 IDC Financial Insights' regional insurance survey where respondents ranked the strategic areas that they will be gravitating toward in 2012.

Table 1: Top 3 Predictions for Asia/Pacific Insurance, 2012

Description

1

Data Integration and Analysis Continue to Shift to a Higher Gear as Insurers Place Concerted Focus on Raising Customer Experiences

Insurers are facing increasingly savvy, demanding, and capricious customers. To better manage client relationships, they are thinking more strategically about organizing, synchronizing and consolidating disparate customer information to create a "single version of the truth" on these customers. They are also making investments in analytics to gain deeper insights into their policyholders and to tailor-make more appropriate products and customer experiences.

2

The Customer of the Future is Multimodal and Insurers would need to Expand and Innovate on their Indirect Distribution Network

Consumers prefer to have a choice of interaction points and would not hesitate to switch carriers if their preferred channels are not available or operating efficiently. Insurers are therefore, increasingly offering alternative distribution channels (the predominant ones being: bancassurance, Web portals, and mobile devices) to cater to the divergent buying preferences of policyholders. At the same time, insurers must be able to present their customers with a cohesive channel message and branding.

3

Risk Management Remains Crucial, Despite - or Perhaps Because of - the Current Uncertain Economic Climate

Insurers are bolstering their investment in risk management to be able to determine risk tolerance, align risk appetite and strategy, and thereby make more intelligent risk decisions. Focus is around instituting stronger internal controls and in selective spending in areas such as enterprise risk management (ERM) and Solvency II to alleviate corporate risk.

Source: IDC Financial Insights, 2011

Insurers that wish to prosper during the turbulent times in 2012 would do well by having clear management actions to: refresh their customer focus, re-invent distribution and reduce capital expenditures, drive innovation in product design, review the product mix, and capture new opportunities (particularly within niche segments such as health, pension and microinsurance, which have the potential to become big business propositions).

On the technology front, IDC Financial Insights recommends that insurers reconfigure their projects into smaller iterations and redirect resources to CRM-related initiatives, ensure that their IT teams speak the same language as the business divisions, and, engage with vendors regularly to ensure that their performance is closely managed and monitored.

Global Provider of Critical Power & Cooling Services Launches Latest UPS Solution for Businesses.

Malaysia, 2 December, 2011 – APC by Schneider Electric, a global provider of integrated critical power and cooling services, announced the launch of the MGE Galaxy 300 UPS system. The Galaxy 300 provides a simplified and reliable solution for protecting small and medium businesses, commercial buildings and technical facilities through its "Secure Power Systems'.

It offers reliable power protection and a robust and easy to install system at the best price to performance ratio. Galaxy 300 fully implements the RoHS (Restriction of the use of Hazardous Substances). The power efficiency level for the UPS system is 93%, which is 5% higher than other UPS systems with similar features. This provides higher operational efficiencies and lower cooling costs. With the new product, users are able to monitor and manage power requirements locally and remotely through a simple web/SNMP interface and a user-friendly display available in 18 languages.

"Feedback from our channel partners and core customers show that power availability, reliability, manageability and convenience are the key issues that UPS systems need to address for low and medium level power users. The new Galaxy 300 system has been designed with these requirements firmly in mind to deliver a UPS that is easy to install and operate, but at an affordable price point. It is particularly ideal for end users who are purchasing a three-phase UPS for the first time," said John Atherton, Malaysian Vice President APC by Schneider Electric.

“We live in a country that receives the second highest number of lightning strikes in the world with Kuala Lumpur receiving 48.3 lightning strikes to the ground every square km of real estate. Power outages can leave delicate IT systems vulnerable to damage and data loss which businesses cannot afford. With the MGE UPS Galaxy 300, businesses will have peace of mind knowing that they will be able to conduct their businesses with 24x7x365 availability with a much lower cost compared to other UPS systems.” adds on Atherton.

The Galaxy 300 also offers up to 30 minutes of battery back-up, an integrated internal mechanical bypass to provide a level of power availability. These features, combined with a compact design and ease of installation can be said to meet all the requirements of the customer's desire to find a UPS that can support the power of 10-40kVA. Galaxy 300 is greatly enhanced services by allowing access front panel for ease of maintenance in confined spaces. All of these features, combined with start-up and on-site warranty service makes the Galaxy 300 the easiest UPS in its class to install, manage and maintain.

— Enhance service availability with HP Business Service Management (BSM) 9.1 software that analyzes large amounts of complex data and metrics to anticipate IT incidents and proactively remediate potential issues.

“IT leaders have a lot of data at their disposal, yet they do not have a single system to manage and make sense of that information to run IT as a business,” said Lee Boon Lee, vice president, Software, Asia Pacific and Japan, HP. “HP IT Performance Suite gives IT executives real enterprise insight with critical and actionable data that has a significant impact within the enterprise IT landscape as well as in the boardroom.”

Better overall IT performance
The new HP IT Performance Suite: VP of Applications Edition and VP of Operations Edition provide common metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) for evaluating and reporting on an IT organization’s performance. Better operational performance

The new HP IT Performance Suite: VP of Operations Edition contains more than 50 out-of-the-box KPIs and works in hybrid environments, including public or private clouds as well as traditional environments. Yahoo!’s 10th Annual Year in Review Spotlights 2011’s Passing Obsessions and Perplexing Newsmakers

iPhone takes the top spot in 2011; Casey Anthony pled her way onto the list; Kim Kardashian joins the list again; and Osama bin Laden’s death captivated the world

SINGAPORE, DECEMBER 1, 2011 – Today Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO), the premier digital media company, announced the 10th anniversary edition of its Year in Review (yearinreview.yahoo.com), the highly-anticipated annual look-back that identifies the top stories and trends of the year based on nearly 700 million monthly unique visitors activity on the network and billions of consumer searches. The annual look-back of aggregated visitor activity is a gauge for worldwide interests. The 2011 Year in Review is available in 17 versions including Argentina, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Italy, Korea, Mexico, Philippines, Spain, Taiwan, United Kingdom, and United States .

The top search term of 2011 didn't go to a person or a news event, but to a technological marvel. The iPhone led the 2011 search queries, bypassing a reality TV star’s marriage and pending divorce, a notorious criminal defendant, and America's most wanted terrorist.

“The iPhone transcended gadget status,” says Vera Chan, senior editor and Web trend analyst at Yahoo!. “The device helped facilitate political movements around the world, and embodied the vision of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs. Fueled by news that he had stepped down as CEO in August, and then that he had passed away in October, searches for Steve Jobs skyrocketed on Yahoo!. By their nature, breaking news stories don't always crack the Top 10 list. People don't have to search for details they get in the news, and it's rare that a news story ends up on the overall list. Yet this year, Casey Anthony, Osama bin Laden, and the Japanese earthquake and tsunami all figured into the top ranking.”

Women in pop culture dominated the Top 10 list. Kim Kardashian, who first appeared in 2009 filling in the Paris Hilton celebutante role, jumped to No. 3. Jennifer Lopez cracked the Top 10 after a nine-year absence, thanks to her "American Idol"-fueled comeback. And singer Katy Perry reaped musical nominations and either tied or broke record sales.

For 10 years, Yahoo!’s Year in Review has analyzed its aggregate insights to determine the top stories, compelling newsmakers, and viral fads that provide a snapshot of the year. What’s notable is how the Year in Review has evolved, going from a “list of lists” to an interactive editorial site. The list of top trends has also changed: from the PlayStation 2, which topped the list 10 years ago, to our new favorite toy, the iPhone, our unending fascination with technology is confirmed. And, although Britney Spears may have reigned supreme for four straight years, new obsessions have taken over. This year the former pop princess did not even crack the Top 10 searches.

With the iPhone topping the list this year, it should come as no surprise that in 2011, consumers wanted information on the go. They searched on Yahoo! through their favorite mobile devices to connect with MLB scores, learn the verdict in the Casey Anthony trial, see where Hurricane Irene would hit land, and even make sure they could beat their friends in the latest game of Scrabble.

While the Top 10 overall list focuses on related keywords, the Top News list involves a wider range of searches, and includes an analysis of the most-read news stories on Yahoo!. The death of a monster who haunted a generation, a record magnitude earthquake that swept away burning towns, the trial of the summer, a sudden death, and a royal wedding, all made the Top News list this year.

The Top Obsessions list combines a fevered and sustained burst of searches with a viral fixation. In 2011, topping the list required a bit of tiger blood. But, before “tiger blood” cracked pop-culture vernacular, “tiger mom” was already a full-blown meme, thanks to Amy Chua's memoir, "The Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother.” And when tigers weren’t enough for us, we turned to birds -- Angry Birds, which was downloaded millions of times, decorated a thousand birthday cakes, and became the year's hot Halloween costume.

Last year, searches reflected a still-skeptical country, as people continued to vie for jobs and unemployment topped the financial searches. This year, a bit of optimism: Unemployment searches dropped to No. 9, and instead of foreclosures, mortgage rates piqued consumer interest.

Kaspersky Lab

Kaspersky Lab

Lexmark brings industry leaders together for first “Print Less. Save More” summit

Malaysian companies discover how to save up to 40 per cent on printing costs

Kuala Lumpur, 1 December 2011: Lexmark recently held its first “Print Less. Save More” summit to educate Malaysian organisations about how to achieve great savings on printing costs. The workshop and networking session in at The Gardens Hotel and Residences revealed the hidden costs of document output that affect most companies. It introduced smart solutions that companies can implement to streamline workflow for improved productivity and more savings, and discussed practices that other companies are adopting to reduce capital expenses and better manage operating costs.

Hosted by Larry Leow, Acting County Manager for Lexmark Malaysia, the event was attended by senior IT personnel from 17 companies across various industries. Also present were George Ang and Jamie Atherton from Lexmark Asia Pacific.

Huge cost savings and greening opportunities revealed
According to Leow:
• Know the importance of having managed print output. A system that can monitor printing activity and identify potential cost savings can achieve savings of up to 40 per cent.
• Wastage is more common than you think. As many as 67% of organisations have unmanaged print output. Worse, in an indiscriminate printing environment, as many as 1 in 6 pages is discarded unread.
• Less expenditure on printing resources = less expenditure of company revenue = more profit!
• It’s easier than ever to go green. Track printing output down to the last sheet to control wastage. Companies can even reward prudent use of printing resources to motivate green behaviour.
• Keep in mind Lexmark’s Managed Print Solutions cost savings philosophy: The lowest cost per page is the page that was never printed.

An eye-opener for participants
One of the participants said, “Many organisations also do not realise that other than the wastage of printing supplies, additional wastage that can occur, especially in companies that use old printers due to the legacy system, include the cost of repairs during frequent equipment breakdown and loss of productivity hours during equipment down time.”

Many of the summit’s participants were surprised that they were not alone with their printing woes, as other companies from the same industry and beyond had also experienced the same issues.

“Lexmark’s summit today is a great event for introducing good printing solutions. Many of us had our eyes opened about the volume of savings that can be achieved by good management of printing resources within a company. Lexmark’s system is ideal for implementation in any company,” he added.

The summit ended with a dinner together with the Lexmark Malaysia team, representatives from Lexmark Singapore and members of Perceptive Concept’s team from Australia.
